Why did we use Perkins as a goal line back in the bowl game?

He did well and scored, but I never heard a reason for it. What was the thinking there?

Obviously to get him ready to take the reins at RB1 in 2024

Prolly so he wouldn’t quit the team

To score a TD

Because it’s a meaningless bowl game and just a fun game at the end of the day

We was the biggest “back” on the roster with Emery out.

It was to honor his being used out of place almost the entire year.

They could have done that with Kaleb Jackson. Smh No, I think he was just begging them to let him try a stint at RB to show them what he can do because he is an athlete.

We had other backs. Perkins has not has a carry in his college career. It was the first half and we were behind. So, why use Perkins?

Was this like a wildcat type of thing to throw off the defense, but with a LB in the backfield? Maybe they didn’t think he’d get the ball?

A promise to keep him happy? Will he play both ways next year?

I’m all for it, but I never heard it explained.

This answer makes the most sense. Thanks.

He was a better RB in high school than linebacker. Coach Kelly probably let him do it for fun since it was a bowl game

That's the answer right there, he is an athlete like I said and played RB in HS even though you play everything in HS including both ways. He just begged Kelly and them to let him play some at RB.

They could have done it with Matthew Langlois too.

Until you lose a game like this to a team like Wisconsin.

I have to say, he took quite the hit and still managed to score. So he was effective when we did use him.

Glad it worked but its very risky to run a play like that at the goal line instead of your backs who are used to taking a hand off. Remember the Copeland fumble at the goal line against Alabama when LSU was going to go up two scores in 2015.

I was impressed with that also, that's a play that top RBs do, it showed that athleticism I was talking about.

Nuss said during postgame that they have been practicing it for the 2 weeks of bowl prep.
