The Motor Trend article:

MT

MT: "Many small and low-range EVs are found to be less expensive than comparable gasoline vehicles. The 200-mile range compact and mid-size electric sedans break even in three to seven years. The 300-mile range compact and mid-size sedans break even in nine to 20 years. Long-range EVs generally are not yet cost competitive with gasoline vehicles, even with subsidies."

... and now I will let the usual suspects duke it out....

Well, the daily EV threads are better than the daily incel threads, so there's that.

If you drive an ev, I think it’s considered being voluntarily celibate.

Juneau is the EV (per capita) capital.

Most of the vehicles here are Nissan Leafs which have a small range but do well in winter.

I thought winter killed the range...

Golf carts have been around along time. They have a short range and can be charged on existing infrastructure. No issues here.

Hard to compete as the scope of work gets larger. Competition is great, but the general sentiment is that we want to choose, not be told and controlled.

I'll get one when I'm too old to get in and out of the 911.

So, probably next week...

So for a medium range EV Versus gas I would need to keep the EV for 9 years to break even versus a gas car , for the same amount of time?
I generally don’t keep a car for 9 years. That is not promising.

Don’t need much of a range in Juneau I guess.

Sounds about right.

Gas prices will only go up and cost to produce EVs will only go down. Variable is electricity prices.

There are more miles of hiking trail than roads. Were not connected to anything via a road system.

They don't last that long.
