When I was a kid my favorite player was Walt Frazier. Not many games to watch on tv back then. I don’t recall alot of memories but he stood out for me.

It was Walt in basketball and Staubach in football and Mickey Mantle in baseball.

Bird - Magic - Jordan - Shaq - Kobe……then it went downhill.

Especially with that woke, clueless, low IQ clown LeBron.

1989? Before Jordan had won a title? People aren't going to like that answer.

nba on nbc Sunday mornings was amazing and easily my favorite sport related viewing as a kid.

I followed the nbc all the way up to the conclusion of the raptors/warriors final.

totally lost interest during the pandemic and have watched a handful of playoff games since; that's it. maybe when I'm an empty nester and have more free time will I revisit the nba and become a fan again.

You can not possibly equate the euro step with the travelling in that era. Officials then occasionally allowed travelling if it were close. Today, they have actually changed the rules to allow an additional full step.

The Euro step was literally introduced to the NBA in 1989

Marciulionis doing it a few times does not make it a thing. And, besides being illegal, it was still called as travelling in that era.

It was literally not part of the rule book until 2009.

While the Euro step was in common use in the NBA before 2009, it did not become technically legal until 2009. Prior to 2009, the NBA rule book had always said a player could only take one step. In 2009, it changed to read "A player who receives the ball while he is progressing or upon completion of a dribble, may take two steps in coming to a stop, passing or shooting the ball."[5] When the change was made, ESPN noted "It is believed to be the first time any league, at any level anywhere in the world, has explicitly allowed two steps."[5]

So the NBA let players get away with it for 20 years, including the dead ball era

I still watch a lot of it, but I've still got cable, so it's like I'm living in the 90's anyway! Get the Mavs & the Pels games on Bally Sports thru Optimum Cable, the TNT games and the ESPN/ABC games. Pels @ Kings came on at 5 pm and the T'Wolves @ Mavs comes on at 6:30 tonight. I'm a Mavs fan that will pull for the Pels unless they are playing the Mavs.

To me most of the West teams are worth watching, but don't enjoy the East teams as much unless it's Milwaukee or Boston. Enjoyed seeing Haliburton playing in the final four of the in season tourney, but haven't caught Indy since they beat Boston in that. Don't want to see his dad every time he scores. Don't think any team in the East, other than Boston or Milwaukee, can win a title. Think five or six West teams could.

I still love all of TNT's coverage of the NBA, but can't watch ESPN at halftime. Twice in one week, ESPN has had had two women announcing an NBA national telecast. The NBA is definitely the most politically correct sports league I watch, but I still don't watch soccer. Nothing like my 90's lifestyle! It makes me feel like I'm in my 40's instead of being 64.

The sport of basketball just kind of sucks in general. Touch fouls leading to 40 free throws a game. It’s not a good product and it’s very hard to watch.

I know you’re talking about basketball in general and not a specific time frame, but it’s always nice to point out that the league shoots about 35% fewer free throws and fouls 35% fewer times than they did in 86-87.

Some people like to act like it’s bad now when the truth is it’s about as good as it gets.

It was good enough until 2009 or so. The Celtics/Lakers back and forth with the big 3 and Kobe was fun. Then it turned into a 3 point shooting contest and that was interesting for maybe one season.

Mavs beat the T'Wolves 115-108 without their rookie center Dereck Lively II. Kyrie had 35 and Luka had 34.

As a Mavs fan, I'll say that this team can be one of the most entertaining and frustrating to watch that I remember. When Luka or Kyrie get hot, they are almost unstoppable. When they both get hot together, they can beat anybody in the league like tonight...TWolves are a terrible match up for Dallas, especially with Lively out. They should have blown Dallas out again, but Luka/Kyrie were able to score enough to keep pressure on them and win it at the end. TWolves have 4 guys on the court who were bigger than Dallas' biggest guy tonight.

It's so frustrating to watch Luka and Kyrie get doubled almost every time they touch it, just for Williams, Hardaway, and Jones to combine for like 12/35 shooting when almost every shot is wide arse open due to teams doubling Luka/Kyrie.

Also frustrating to watch guys like Anthony Edwards drive to the rim at will...Dallas has nobody who can guard a guy like that. Luka/Williams too slow, Kyrie/Hardaway/Curry/Jones/Green too small.

The bulls held the jazz to 54 points in a finals game. Doubt we ever see that again in any game. Lowest point totals for one team in a single game for a season now days is like 75

Last year a few teams only scored 75 in a game and that was the lowest.

In the 50s there was a game that ended 19-18

Late '80's to early '90's when the Lakers, Celtics, Pistons, and Bulls were duking it out was incredible. You young bucks will never understand.

those were great series. but the league was not great, those teams were great.

there is way more talent in the league rn than at any other point.

the real issue is the ticky tack fouls eliminating defense.

its the same as the nfl/college football rules on pass interference/defensive holding/rough the passer.

once the players realized how easy it is to get free pts/yards by creating contact, the game lost a lot of its viewer appeal.

i wish i could make $10 million a year to flop and go shoot free throws.
