Charles Schwab Fee

Hello,
Girlfriend has Vanguard Mutual Funds for her Roth IRA held in a Charles Schwab account. When purchasing Vanguard Mutual funds Schwab charges a fee (If using Schwab should just purchase ETFs or the Schwab equivalent funds, lesson learned). Dividends and capital gains are set to reinvest. Curious if there is also a fee associated with the reinvestment? Curious if should dump existing Vanguard funds and move them to Schwab funds. Any issue with simply letting the Vanguard funds grow?

Great question. I was recently moved to Schwab's platform from TDAmeritrade. When I made my quarterly trades of non-Schwab funds they charged me fees. This displeases me, greatly, and is pushing me to move to Fidelity or Vanguard.

There’s no fees for Schwab purchases. I’m not sure if you are with one brokerage why you wouldn’t use their own ETF’s/ funds if available. They are almost always going to be lower cost.

Ever since they switched me from TDA I've hated it. Their website is shitty and confusing to use. I mainly just use thinkorswim but I wanna change.

You are going to be equally displeased if you try to buy Vanguard funds with a Fidelity account because they will charge a fee.

My biggest gripe with Schwab is the lack of an emerging markets index fund. Otherwise, they have all the funds and ETFs I need.

I would consider buying one of schwabs index funds if the fees are bothersome. Unless there's a specific fund you are looking for, the common total market, etc funds are fairly equivocal to vanguard funds with low fees

I don’t believe I’ve ever seen a reinvestment fee on dividends or CGs of MFs.

We got our HSA's transferred there from TD Ameritrade as well. They don't offer triple B bonds and seem to have more limited bond offerings in general than Vanguard. I usually either buy Treasuries at auction or Cd's. They seem to have a more limited CD offering than Vanguard as well. I haven't had a problem trading stocks there.

Their website and app sucks. TDA was much more streamlined.

That’s what I am hoping for

I already moved everything to fidelity. Schwab is pretty terrible

Seems like Schwab insists on using different lingo for everything on their site making it fussy to use

I really like Schwab vs Fidelity
Guess I am in the minority.
I might be bias because some transfers were not working. Fidelity didn't give af - my person at Schwab made it happen

I am a long time user of Schwab ETFs. I would definitely use those over vanguard.

Does anyone know if there’s a fee on dividend reinvestments?

Schwab customer service has always been excellent for me, best to ask them for sure. But I've never been charged. No.
