I would highly advise against it

So when my aunt was dating my now uncle in law, I knew they were a match made in heaven.

She had a pet skunk that she rescued and he had a pet coon he rescued.

The skunk was not all that nice, but he was kinda small (with sharp arse teeth tho) and the coon was a corn fed country baw. Like 35-40lbs, mid size dog kinda thing.

I vividly remember in the 8th grade, watching spongebob on the couch, when this huge pet coon crawled up beside me, then on my shoulder, then started picking through my hair and then latched its teeth into the side of my fricking skull while he's on my shoulder scratching the dog piss out of me.

That day I ended up in the ER with like 7 stiches in my head and a pretty solid scar that runs like 5 inches on top of my shoulder.

Till this day I still don't like spongebob or raccoons

This may sound insane to some of you country boys but some people have racoons as pets. I've wondered if anyone has any experience with this? Are they good pets? Will they get along with other animals like cats or dogs? Will they actually use a cat litter box to use the bathroom?

My parents live on a 7 acre farm and had a pet raccoon when I was in college. She was tiny when they got her and they bottle fed her until she could move on to puppy chow (which she loved). Eventually, she started sleeping outside on top of our German Shephard. I kid you not...she thought she was a dog, and she would shadow that dog everywhere she went.

As a pet...she was weird. They have certain things they can be neurotic about...like, my mom couldn't have anything in her hair. If she had any kind of beret, the raccoon would climb up on the back of her chair and start trying to rip it out.

Wish I could remember more...that was about 30 years ago...but I loved that freaking animal.

When they are young and small, they are great.

They start make huge messes when they are full grown.

I was watching Lonestar law recently (Texas game warden show) and it is illegal, at least in Texas, and they said it's because when they become adults they are known to attack...still wild animals.

Do not get a coon for a pet.
Highly susceptible to rabies and according to our vet, the vaccine is not effective on them.
Cute as a bug when they are babies, but will eventually grow, and there is a better than small chance it will rip your face off.

There was a guy on Tarantella Road (near Folsom, LA) who kept them, years ago. It was probably around 1985 that I visited him.

He had several pet raccoons that seemed very tame. My recollection is that the tamest ones (like the one he took out of its cage and showed me) were the ones he'd bottle-fed as infants. I believe he also had some that he'd captured somehow, after adolescence, but he was more circumspect about showing those off to guests.
