Boat sack of oysters

80 bucks this afternoon for a boat sack of oysters, big burlap bag. It's somewhat tradition to get a sack during the holidays and this sack is really good. Large and south Texas salty. Back in the 1960 period my dad would take us to bayou Sally south of Houma to pick oysters. They taken from a shallow bayou that commercial boats could not pass, so they were very large, but not very salty. 4 oysters made good po-boy then.
the ones today were harvested in the Palascis area of Texas, maybe this morning. Last year Wildlife and fisheries closed most of the texas coast. So today is a real treat.

Galveston Bay had some great, productive reefs pre-Ike. Smithpoint was destroyed in the storm and it drove all of the commercial activity to the beds adjacent to South and North Deer Island effectively over fishing them for a decade. It is finally coming back but slowly.

Mais I eat some crazy shiite as my user name suggests but... I dunno if I'd be eating ersters out of an area that was closed last year... but hey.. that's just me...

There were 50 - 60 boats in Lavaca Bay when we passed through Wednesday fishing oysters. Must be good hauls coming in.

The oyster boats were working Bayou Sale earlier this week. Last sack I had from that area was the saltiest I’ve ever had.

Sounds like you're talking about a 100 lb. sack of oysters like you could get back in the day before those damn half-sacks became a thing.
I can remember my dad getting those for $10 and they would contain 20-22 dozen oysters.
The last real sack of oysters I got had to be about 25 years ago now that I got from an old guy in lower St. Bernard Parish that had 2 oyster boats and he sold sacks to me for $40.
The last time I checked, half-sacks with less than 100 oysters were going for $55 + tax at local seafood markets.

My cousin from Buras grabbed a sack from friend of his who fishes oysters. I actually ate 3-4 raw and they were super salty. I'm more of a chargrilled kind of person so I did about 3-4 dozen on the pit.

If I knew someone around Houma that could shuck me a sack of oysters I would buy them one. I can’t shuck because my left hand doesn’t work anymore.
