Willie had a rough second year- but man he’s completely regressed as a coach this year. Rotations, game flow, plays drawn, team identity, clutch game management. Hes got to be rated as one of the worst coaches in the league.

Coaching is bad. The primary offense should be surrounding Zion with elite shooting. He isn’t doing that. The whole NBA has been built recently on shooting with spacing and Willie is not doing it.
Again though the NBA officiating was complete shite and inexcusable. One way to combat some of the dumb officiating is better shooting. Ha got stupid calls in the paint. If Ja got the contact Zion got foul or no foul Ja would be out for the season. The officiating is not consistent and the call at the end of the game was just stupid.

Pels are now 0-6 in games decided by 3 points or less.
If we were just 3-3, we'd be 20-11, and a half game back of the 3 seed.
Problem is, there's just no rational reason to be optimistic that we'll figure it out, there really isn't.

Yep.
Zion definitely hasn’t been as good as last year. But…a big part of that is playing 7 min less, having a lower usage, and being asked to sit in the corner during crunch time. Again, he had 20/10 tonight with 7 min left in the third. He finished with 23/11 and only played 9 of the 18 minutes in regulation from that point on. Coaching and hierarchy has been a major issue for both Zion and the team. Its broken and I don’t think they can fix it.

This team won’t have a single all star. Zion has regressed badly and BI’s one all star game is now looking like a fluke.
This is what a team without a star looks like.

He’s playing less because his conditioning is absolute trash.
He’s out of breath after playing for 5 minutes

Not tonight. He was playing hard, rebounding, and had been the best player on the floor. Our coach did a great job of slowing him down though.

Problem with Z is he can't be your closer because he can't make FT's consistently and he tends to turn the ball over late.
BI can't be your closer because he's a ball hog who tries to make low percentage 2's.
CJ would probably be the guy who needs to close, but of late he forgets how to shoot late in the game.
But, the biggest problem I see late is we don't run anything that resembles a play other than everyone get out of the way and let BI or Zion screw something up.
I at least thought Z played hard last night. He's just still not in good shape and he also missed alot of drives last night.
Players are problems, but the Coaching is terrible.

Agreed. It's baffling how inept we are at the end of games. It looks like we have zero structure at all.

But watching these games vs last season, it seems pretty clear the minutes being down are because of how terrible his conditioning is. He's completely gassed after being on the court for 3-4 minutes every single time.

quote:Giannis won a title as a worst FT shooter who turned the ball over more than Zion. Giannis also shot sup 60% from the line in the playoffs the year he won the title. Zion's game, in theory, can be the closer, he likely just doesn't have the conditioning to do it well.

To be fair a big reason why Giannis won his title was Jrue Holiday- his ability to defend, hit shots and play point guard down the stretch was vital for them. Even now Lillard is key for them. For bigs like Zion and Giannis you need elite lead guards. Im not blaming CJ, had a fantastic season but hes not a lead guard, hes more of a scoring off guard. To top it off- you have BI who goes into hero ball mode instead of playing through Zion.

Herb's last 9 games:
32% from the field
19% from 3

I wonder if hes hurt. His overall energy level just seems low. That Herb X factor type of player has completely disappeared these past few games. Personally this type of Herb cannot be in the starting lineup over Trey.

He seems a step slow. Maybe he's getting over the flu?

If true . . . that’s wild. And not in a good way. We are missing a true point guard. We have ball handling problems late in games, and neither CJ, Ingram, Zion are pgs but all do play one in crunch time.

This team is exactly like the Sainta, gets punked by the elite teams and does just enough to beat the middle of the pack/bad teams
