Winner of the conference gets an auto bid, and I'd imagine it will end up being winner of the 4 major conferences get the byes.
I can see them getting rid of conference championships... let's pretend it was this this year, and Texas already in the SEC.
Georgia, Alabama and Texas are in, no doubts there. No conference championship would mean UGA has a bye and the #1 overall seed; and Bama and Texas both hosting 1st rd games.
Bama doesn't make the championship, it's between Texas and UGA (head to head comes into play here). Bama is safely in place for hosting, maybe as the 5th or 6th seed. Texas would be playing to get a bye, but if they lose they may drop to the 8th seed. Uga would drop to the 5th seed if they lose.
It's a big risk for the 2nd place team, if they can't spring the upset. You kick into a more competitive 1st round game, and probably end up facing #1 in the 2nd rd.

It will always exist for one reason, it is a big money maker.

To get a bye you have to play an extra game

Yes, Kirk Herbstreit will work hard to get Saban and Bama in that game also.

There are only 2 major conferences

Nobody really cares what your shitty opinions are. There are currently 5 major conferences right now. Next year, as far as the playoff committee is concerned, there will likely be 4 auto qualifiers.
And why did you conveniently ignore my first question to your dumb arse reply?

That took a dark turn lol

Not true, at least by rule.
Odds are they will be conference champs, yes. But it’s not set in stone that the top 4 are all conference champs. I promise you there will be years that #4 will be an at large bid. If not higher.

His point is that there will be too few conferences to say that the top 4 will be all auto bid conference champs. They probably won’t.
And there will always be six auto qualifiers under the rules. They might get 11/12 seeding, jumping other teams in the rankings to take the spot, but they will be there.

Yes the Best two teams will play for the SEC championship
Posted on 12/25/23 at 6:51 am to saturncube21
It’s a #1 vs. #2 money grab waste of a game. With 12 team playoff conference championship games should just go away. Too many games. The top SEC team after the season should be the conference champion.

I believe they are using the “plus one” format to determine participants. That’s Bama plus one

quote:Will never be like that in the SEC. Because of no divisions, every team will play no less than 2 really tough games. Ole Miss is considered to have an easy schedule in 2024. I REPEAT, OLE MISS'S SCHEDULE IS CONSIDERED TO BE EASY COMPARED TO OTHERS IN 2024.
You could end up with an 8-0 team vs a 6-2 in Atlanta if it's the top two teams. Maybe a mismatch like what we saw in the Big XII this year-- Texas vs Okie State
Ole Miss has an early stretch of Kentucky, at South Carolina, and at LSU. After the bye they have to play Oklahoma at home, go on the road vs Arkansas, then play at home vs UGA, and go into another bye. Then they finish with UF on the road and the Egg Bowl. Again, this is considered manageable in the new SEC.

In the new CFP, the 4 conference champions are seeded 1-4 and then the at-larges are seeded 5-12. That means you could very well have a team with a better record seeded LOWER in the bracket. Example: if the Big 12 champ is 10-3 after winning the CCG, they will be seeded top 4 whereas an 11-1 (or even 12-1) SEC at large team would be seeded 5 or lower.

It is now going to be decided by a nationally televised debate between Saban and Kirby Smart with Finebaum as the moderator. Topics ranging from the future landscape of college football, NIL, politics, etc.
