I’m a combat veteran, and disabled (don’t do the placard or even talk about it). And I will say that you aren’t wrong, and it is a bane to all who served honorably.
Waaay too many folks gather checks for doing squat, but that’s the nature of it, you can’t ask because it is sacred. I’ll say though, the ones who shout about it the most were probably not ever in danger and are just shitbags.
Sorry if that’s offensive, but had to share my thoughts.

There are 25 yr olds out there that have lived through more shite than you could even imagine. Not all wounds are visible.
And plenty of vets that know how to work the system because their wounds aren’t visible. “I can’t sleep at night” “I get startled multiple times a day” “my anxiety is so bad that I can’t work”. Etc. etc. And they’ll get thousands per month for the rest of their lives when they sleep soundly at night with no startling, no anxiety at all.

The best way to look at it is that it's part of the compensation package similar to the GI bill.
As a combat vet myself I'm not completely on board with that hypothesis either but it does have some merit.

it's not the actual disabled veterans, it's complete cottage industry created to help every veteran disabled or not to push paperwork and work the system to do whatever they can to get their slice
I’d say they’re not as bad as a piece of shite criminal who use to suck dick in prison for protection.

Rise of Disabled Veterans
We used to have wars that ended, with years which could be counted, and the return of that era of veterans was pretty much permanent. We could count them, alive and dead, at the 'end' of the war.
Today, war is permanent, both main forces and hidden special forces are forever fighting, with years which we cannot count yet. We cannot count the alive and dead who have entered and returned or count those who remain forever on foreign soil.
The 'rise of the disabled veterans' is due to this forever war, with forever chemicals in both their military homes and battlefield tents, work hazards, the absolute horrors they see the enemy perform to stain the moral fibers of their nature. They return home broken, mentally and physically, exhausted and disgusted with the atrocities of their enemies and their own government. Denied by the money counters overseeing their healthcare, especially when they leave service, and treated as if what they are seeking is a 'perk' or any non-taxable compensation is seen a bums payment.
The DV rating is facing more stringent criteria because of how many people have been sent into this permanent war. We never have money for the care of aging or injured US citizens. However, they find plenty for the rest of the world that our service members have traveled to, fought in, or died in.
Be better............

One thing you can’t argue with, though, is the high suicide rate for veterans. The military is obviously doing something wrong. To me it seems they are careless with the young people who are in it (getting into conflicts that aren’t absolutely necessary for our defense, sexual assaults of females just to name a few), and then just toss money at the problem vs really investigating what’s going wrong.

Living around a military installation, EVERYONE has the DV plates.

The phucking recruiters doors were open to everybody. Don't bitch if you didn't join the club. Especially after 20 years of war. NAW, that didn't break people, right? Some of us chose to join something bigger than ourselves so everyone can keep the privileges we have.
YES, some take advantage of the system that finally got put in place to help the real war Hero's from WW2, Nam & South Korea.
The most phucked up thing about it was the fact they never advertised the benefits and it's a total $hitshow to put in a claim. Then wait a year to here something meanwhile Vets die. Most Vets that are homeless or on drugs don't know there's help(and some do) but the system is too hard to navigate with mental problems.
It's really simple to under stand, you should know a contract is a contract working for a dealership. I signed my contract in 1985 and it said if the military causes any injuries, they will take care of all medical issues and make you whole. Would you expect anything less if it was your son or daughter?
The bigger problem I see is they are giving everyone an easy PTSD disability and it won't be long before they take guns from Vets. New election coming, new riots, new shootings, 2024 is gonna be a show.

What about the thousands who were exposed to Chemicals, such as Agent Orange, came back and worked for a living, then died of AO induced Cancer. Or their children developed diabetes as a result of agent orange.
What do they deserve?
They promise all the privileges, go to the front of the line in government employment, you will earn as a GI.
I was laid off from work once and decided to try working for the Post Office. They would not take my application. I wasn't privileged enough. Seven years in the submarine service ranked below minorities and women who served.

I'm telling you that I have no obligation or desire to do anything to change you or anyone else's opinion about veterans. I didn't care what the average a-hole thought in 2003 when he was blasting Toby Kieth out of his truck and calling anyone who disagreed with sending my arse to third world shithole a traitor, and I certainly don't care about him crying over parking spots now that we've came home and he wants to pretend like he wasn't all in on supporting the war at the time.
From war vet to another:
PREACH!
ETA: KMA serial downvoter. I actually lost a soldier in my unit to suicide due to undiagnosed PTSD so yes while a lot of vets abuse the system a lot go undiagnosed and suffer in silence like he did so you can frick right off you fricking POS prick

That’s the way it’s been explained to me by some of my AF veteran friends if you catch my drift. I have a hard time with it too but the older I get I realize that I should’ve taken retirement when they offered it.

In many states, including Louisiana, a 100% disabled veteran is automatically eligible for a handicap tag and disabled license plates (policy based and does not require any approval from a DR)
Some 100% disabled veterans are considered disabled without any mobility ailments normally associated with being “disabled”.
100% rating from the VA for PTSD or TBI and the servicemember automatically can get the handicap placard and plates.

There are FB groups dedicated solely to helping increase VA ratings.
It can make you sick seeing the alarming number of young veterans in there scheming with each other on how to “get to 100%”
“im currently at 60%. what can i add to my claim to help get me to 100%?”

From one vet to another, you are a sorry pos.
Which, one: could have damaging effects, both socially and professionally, if we're wrong. This is the age of viral videos, and most of us aren't qualified to give an on-the-spot medical diagnoses in the first place.
And, two: suggests I owe my time to whatever bullshite cause he finds important and has some sort of bearing on my "honor" if I choose not to play along. His opinion of my honor, or lack thereof, means as much to me as yours. As in, frick all.
If that makes me a sorry POS I guess that's my cross to bear.

Well this can’t happen, but your point is valid. 70% seems to be pretty common. 70% pays about 2k/month (tax free) if married w/children-If you reside in Texas you pay zero property taxes.

As someone who did 31 years (and retired 5 years ago), the fraud in the VA system is crazy. I know many folks riding the VA train and have never sniffed combat nor done any type of rigorous PT. Fraud in the VA system is much worse than fraud in the SS or Worker's Comp systems, were it is rampant. I'm all for giving combat soldiers and marines (and the very few airman and sailors who saw it) and the benefits they can get, but many of the folks working the system are malingerers. They gum up the system hurting the truly injured.
