Start Trey over Jones.
And Hawkins needs more of Jose/Naji's minutes.

Hes past that.
We use him as a high level role player, but he's more than that already.

We can’t get any rhythm on offense with Zion in b/c he’s a black hole
This is legitimately the dumbest thing posted on this board. Of the top 8 scorers, no one on the team has a higher percentages of passes made to passes received. Point Zion has led to more ball movement and team assists than any other offense run in the last several years.

Yeah blaming Zion for offensive issues is ridiculous. We constantly don’t give him enough spacing. We just throw in one quality shooter with him most of the time.

It would be, if I had posted this 1 year ago.
Your confusing last years Zion with this year. This years Zion hasn’t been good at all, despite still having really good individual stats.
We are statistically better on both offense and defense when he’s off the court this year.
ORtg on the court 115.7
ORtg off the court 118.1
DRtg on the court 115.5
DRtg off the court 112.2
We basically are neutral when he’s on the court, and +6 when he’s off the court.

Trey Murphy is absolutely not just a role player, not even close.
You’re confusing me saying elite role player with PJ fricking Tucker or Pat Connaughton.
Elite role player is what I said, as in an elite 3rd option on a team, which is what CJ and Jrue and MPJ are.
Can Trey be a true #2 on a championship team? Maybe. He’d need to continue to improve on both sides of the ball, which he maybe can, such as Jaylen Brown or Paul George. Do you see Trey getting buckets in one on one situations late in playoff games like Middleton has done? I think maybe he can, but he’s not there just yet.
Y’all act like Trey being an elite 3rd option is a bad thing.

Gotcha, sounds like we just have a fundamental disagreement on what role players are then.

The biggest reason that Zion hasn’t been a huge positive for this team is the way he is being used. We have three seasons (partial) of data on Zion being a huge positive. Those teams were geared towards Zion’s strengths. This team is geared towards BI’s strengths. Again, at no point in Zion’s NBA career has he been asked to stand in the corner and be a spacer in the fourth quarter of a close game while BI runs pick and rolls. Are you surprised that didn’t work? Because I’m not. Zion has to be Batman and BI has to be Robin. It’s simple but we haven’t figured it out yet.
This team has taken a top 10 offensive weapon in the league when healthy and taken away what he does best. What makes it worse is there is a PERFECT compliment to what he does best and this team doesn’t play the two together.

This team will only go as far as Zion takes them. Every move willie makes should have that in mind.

How were the other years geared towards Zion when people have literally screamed the last 3 or so years that we NEED more shooting around Zion, and this year we have more shooting than we've had in many years.
If you want to argue the offensive sets, I'll give you that, but the team has literally been built to work with Zion now, while taking more and more away from BI each year.

We play most of Trey's minutes with BI. Hawkins is pretty much rotting on the bench and Ryan will too when he returns. Otherwise we have the same roster as last season.
The roster benefits BI more to be honest. Herb is a huge benefit to BI since he takes the toughest defensive matchup on the perimeter. The plethora of wings that can play defense benefits BI the most.
You can't sit there with a straight face and say Zion is benefiting based on Willie's lineups.

There’s a difference between our roster construction being geared towards Zion (which it wasn’t, but is now)
And our game plan being geared towards Zion (which it was, but isn’t now)
We need those things to line up. Hopefully Zion, Willie, and BI figure it out

Yea but I also think it’s wrong to say the roster isn’t constructed for Zion
The roster is great for Zion:
You have a big who is spacing more and nailing 40% of 3s
You have the best shooter on planet earth (bias I know)
Lead guard who’s a 40% volume 3pt shooter
Other shooters (Naji and Jose shooting well. Herb needs to pick it up. I really need Hawk to figure out his defense)
The problem isn’t the roster construction, the problem is the lineups we throw out there with Z

Have you listened to Willie talk? He has literally said the goal is to put Zion off the ball and to give Ingram the ball more. Zion is playing less with Trey this year than at any point in the last two years. I’d love for you to point out the game that Zion has played with more shooters and we ran point Zion. Yes, the roster does have more shooting. However, we are taking the same amount of threes as before and even less than before in clutch situations. Ingram leads the team in FGA and usage. Your assumption is wrong.
Posted on 12/22/23 at 2:44 pm to Terrific Tales
Never said that. I said it benefits BI more.

Again I will stress these are COACHING decisions and not the roster. This is the most built for Zion roster we have had to date.
If Willie doesn't use it as such, that is not the fault of the roster.
Posted on 12/22/23 at 3:21 pm to bonethug0180
And this is the most build roster for Ingram as well. So how is it taking away from BI?
The last time I checked, we still don't have a complimentary big for Zion and we're still lacking a PG who can him the ball in traffic. And we've had this big man issue since 2019.
