Now we have people agreeing with Zion having an Enes Kanter role. We also have people asking what we can give up to become the Utah Jazz. Just when you think you’ve seen it all…

That's saying it doesn't matter who he's passing to, it won't change his statistical output. That's flatly wrong. Passing to 44% 3pt shooters will absolutely change the statistical output of passing to lesser shooters. It's tough to fathom you or others disagreeing with that. If you don't, then you agree with me, so which is it?

Like I said, superstars don’t care who they are playing with when it comes to their own individual stats.
Lebron had one of his lowest assists per game in his career the year they won the championship in Cleveland at 6.8. He had 1.5 apg more his first year in LA playing with BI, Lonzo and Hart, who all shot a lot better from 3 when they didn’t have Lebron the year before than when they did. The next year in LA with AD he had the most apg in his career at 10.2. He had 3 guys shooting between 36-38%, no one higher, and everyone else pretty putrid. His last year in Miami he had 6.3.

Who Zion plays with matters to the team winning or not, not to Zions stats, assuming Zion is a true bonafide superstar. You can do that with any true superstar.

CJ as 6th man on this team doesn’t add up. They need him on the floor
as much as possible.

Here’s where I’m at on the start Trey vs start Herb debate

In this league, offensive players shine when surrounded by offensive players and defensive players shine when surrounded by defense players

Shooters shoot better and more when surrounded by people who give them space. Drivers drive more and more effectively when surrounded by shooters

Defenders, likewise, defend much more effectively when surrounded by other defenders who will fight through screens, communicate on switches, etc.

HERB IS AMAZING, but his impact is generally minimized when you put him out there as the only + defender in the starting lineup. Most of Herb’s massive impact has come not with the starting lineup (with CJ) and that’s not a coincidence, it’s just hard for him to make the impact he needs to make in that lineup

So what do you do? You maximize your offensive output AND your defensive output by having IDENTITY in your lineups. Play Herb and Dyson together off the bench and let them maximize each other

Play Zion and Trey together way more and let them cook. It really seems so painfully simple to me

For sure, CJ would still get 30+ minutes and close. I just believe its the best fit for the team. You start the game with a crazy long lineup with TM3 spacing instead of CJ, then bring in CJ with a neon green light to punish the opponent’s second unit and close with CJ, BI, Herb, Zion, and TM3.

The best fit is putting your 5 best players on the court to start the game. CJ is apart of that.

The answer is the fact that our starting lineup hasn’t really lit the world on fire. Even with CJ, BI and Zion, we still only look ok most of the time. This discussion is not necessarily about anyone playing more or less, just when and with whom. Try it! Start treye, see how it looks. If it doesn’t work, sub Herb immediately, go back to Herb, whatever. But I don’t see the point in being stagnant with our matching. I still think Herb is a starter in a championship team. The guy needs to play a ton and should be the first sub.
