Charles barkley... he just called out auburn on espn to hire a black coach

What if there is a better white coach out there?

Will Barkley donate the revenue to offset losses incurred (lower attendance, et al) with regard to hiring a less qualified coach?

I wonder which strip joint they took him to? I hope to God it wasn't Commotions in Lagrange - that place is a craphole.

AU lost a damn fine coach. Whether he quit or was fired (my money's on the latter), he'll be hard to replace.

For the sake of the LSU-AU rivalry and my life-long loathing of Bammer, I hope you find a diamond in the rough.

We have a black f**king president, most major cities have black mayors, when will this racist bullshite stop?? It is statements like Barkley's the reason why racism will never stop. Yes, it is time for blacks to quit their chip on the shoulder mentality. I hate to start some political bullshite, but the same reason blacks voted for Obama (a sense of entitlement) is why we will never have racial harmony in this country. Quit trying to cry racism & prove to us you are the best candidate in ANY job- guess what?? It will probably work!!

Very few whites bring up race but nearly all blacks do in every situation. It gets f---ing old.

white people have to walk on eggshells when talking about race, but stupid idiots like Sir. Charles, can run his dumbass mouth off, and noone will say a word.

Barkley may have just assured that Gill won't get the job. Calling half the fan base and just about all the Trustees rednecks just drew a line in the sand for some. Hopefully Auburn hires someone good and will get their program back up and running, and if it's Gill, then more power to em, but Charles' piehole should be at a buffet, not on ESPN.

Quick question. Why are fans of schools outside of Auburn taking such great offense to his statements? I really don't see any backlash from the Auburn people and his statements were directed specifically towards Auburn.

I can't speak for my fellow Auburn alumni/fans, but I have heard Sir Charles shoot off at the mouth for as long as I can remember. That's just his personality - and while I may not always like or agree with what he says, he has a right to his thoughts and feelings and can express them anytime he feels like it.

I doubt that the Auburn administration will pay much, if any attention to him, and no matter who gets hired Barkley will be supportive. The man has given a large chunk of money to the athletic department over the years and goes to more games (both football and basketball) than most would realize.

All in all, it's just Barkley being Barkley and the Auburn family is used to it. If it was someone like Bo Jackson to come out and say this, then maybe it would bring a different reaction, but this is just typical behavior from Barkley.

nothing to do with race .. but turner gill had one really good season at a mid-american conference school and are taking them to the international bowl ... what makes barkley think this success would immediately translate to the SEC ? this isn't an on-the-job-training league ... look at the other schools in just the western division alone and look at the resumes of most of the coaches and how seasoned they are ... nick saban would have turner gill for lunch right now recruiting-wise in the state of alabama ... gill would be a dumb move for auburn right now ... he'll be a great coach down the road .. not just yet ..

Why didn't he do this when Alabama was hiring a new coach??? Because he is not a Uof A alum.. he is an AU alum.

BTW, I think Turner Gill is a damn fine coach and would do okay at AU. Probably not as good as Tubbs, but okay. agree...

If he would be Auburn's coach, you would definitely hear a few "that's turrible" remarks.
