You’re on the correct path…9mm/22LR/5.56/7.62x51 and .308 is the way.

Does this mean my venerable 30-06 is going to go the way of the 30-40 Krag? I haven't looked at any .308 rifles, but maybe I should if that is the case?

Try finding ammo for a .270 WSM. I have alerts set on Ammoseek and others and felt lucky to just pick up 3 boxes.

Won’t run out of .270 or 7MM-08 in my lifetime, but my next gun will be chambered in .308.

Same goes for 7mm WSM. Last I seen, avg price for a box of bullets on gun broker is $170

No. .30-06 isn't going anywhere anytime soon. See other comments. Low volume sellers are what is disappearing.

This has a lot to due with that specific cartridge, and it’s been doublewhammy’d.

Olin (Winchester/browning) settled with a guy who patented several “short fat” magnum cartridges. They have to pay him a royalty on any WSM ammo or gun chambered.

To get out from under that they made the 6.8 western, which is pretty much just the 270 wsm that they make faster twist rifles for.

If you have a 270 wsm and enjoy shooting it, you need to learn to handload because it’ll likely never have ammo reliably available again.

I am pretty certain my 30-06 isn't going extinct without a fight.

I also have 6.5 CM, .270 and 5.56.

SGammo is sending the same shortage message....

Just ordered 3 more boxes of bullets while they were out there (Midwest). Gives me well over 200 rounds, as little as my son hunts these days, he won’t run out in his lifetime.

ammo shortage

Keep calling it an ammo shortage and that’s exactly what we’re going to end up with.

Raising prices due to shortages in materials is not going to create an ammo shortage right now. The supply is finally catching up with demand for most calibers, and just when I expected prices to start coming back to acceptable levels, this “memo” starts getting passed around. It’ll be more like additional ammo inflation unless everyone starts panicking.

Sure, the next shortage could be right around the corner, but that doesn’t mean you need to go out and buy a pallet right now. If you didn’t get what you needed before this message popped up, you probably don’t need it.

I just bought some just in case but I for the most part agree with you.

Does anybody know if freeshippingammo is legit? They seem to have decent reviews on ammoseek but doesnt even look like they are charging taxes

Most of my guns are

.30-30, .30-06, .243, 5.56, 7.62x51, 7.62x39, .308,.357,.22, 9mm, and a few others that I have enough to last.

Only caliber I no longer shoot is .270 WSM for obvious reasons

Thank goodness whatever was going on with the market then has long since stabilized.

Somebody is confused about what was going on?

Several dozen times a day the right-wing media bellowed that the Black guy was comin' fer yer guns!

Election year. Better believe there will be a panic buy. Stock up because I am and plan to profit from it. Gun powder and primers are a real investment.
