Loose Dogs

Anyone had any luck capturing dogs running around their property? Since someone dumped them off a few weeks ago, I haven’t seen any deer on any of my property. I’m not one to shoot a dog but, I’d like to be rid of them.

They are going to die slow painful deaths from disease and starvation. Shooting them as just as humane as trapping them and handing them to animal control who will likely end up euthanizing them.

how many dogs?
obviously they’ll be hungry, a bag of dog food will get them where you want them
if they are in decent health I’d try to catch them. It’s not like they are wolves, they’ll probably come right to you

get three leashes and a bag of food and fry and catch them. If you can’t then do what you gotta do

Borrow a hog trap and bait it with dog food.

Domestic dogs are the easiest animal on earth to trap. Like poster said above, a hog trap and some scraps would work. You might get more than one in the trap at the same time.

Good God man, use a hog trap. Even if animal control ultimately euthanizes, I'd have a really hard time seeing a dog bleed out consciously. That would be a last option for me if the dog were in serious trouble, like hit on an interstate and need immediately put down far from a vet.

Like many above have already said, put some food out with a big trap. Odds are if someone dropped them off they are domesticated. Sorry SOB to drop them off. But the dogs are probably hungry and scared. They will come to food and a person. I don’t understand how someone could shoot a dog just to kill it. Inhumane as hell.

Is calling your Parish's Animal Control not an option? We've had to have loose dogs removed from our property on more than one occasion, and never had any issues with Animal Control helping.

Do they have collars?
Yes - Don't shoot
No - Shoot

Agree on this.
Tough decision but you haven’t seen any deer due to the dogs

if you can make a case that an animal is threatening your animal property or members of family/humans on the property then i believe you can.
if a dog/cat is just hanging out on your land and not aggressive it falls under animal cruelty to shoot it. can downvote me all you want, doesnt make it not true.

Any idea what happens to most "unhomed" mutts? The most humane thing to do is put them down.
An old school veterinarian once told me the best thing to do if you have an unexpected litter of mutts is to euthanize them on the spot. Otherwise they're going to a pound and live in a tiny cage a few weeks then get put down.... and that's the lucky ones.

I’m sure you’re going to cite that law for us any minute now…
