I’ve been watching all three movies on Paramount over the past few weeks they’ve been on.
They have held up pretty damn well. The scenary is still incredible to see. I miss this time in the early 2000’s when this was the hot thing.

Needs a reboot for modern audiences.

If you watch the extended versions and fast forward every scene that’s just Frodo, Sam and Gollem, it’s an elite viewing experience

Return of the King was released in theaters Dec. 17, 2003. Some of the effects look 20 years old but mostly they still look good. Thankfully George Lucas wasn't involved so we can still watch the original versions in 4k without a bunch of new CGI.

It’s the greatest trilogy ever made. Change my mind.

Qualify as Christmas movies IMO. Always watch them this time of year.

Saw Fellowship on opening night.
For a 3-hour movie at *midnight, the theatre was nearly, if not completely full. The audience consisted of mostly younger kids (teens, 20's) with a handful of those in their 50's and even 60's. And the rest in between. With a few folks dressed up in cosplay gear.
Have seen the movie many times over since then, but I'll never forget the part at the end where one girl quite genuinely surprised, shouted out as the credits started rolling "no way!". So wrapped up in the story that she forgot this was part 1 of a trilogy. And it ended pretty much where the books left off.
* I know I saw the other two movies on opening day, but weirdly I can’t remember if I saw them at midnight as well. Pretty sure I did. However, when The Hobbit came out, I did not give it that level of commitment. Never seen The Battle of the 5 Armies. Not in theatre or tv.

I agree that these movies are absolutely in the conversation for best trilogy of all time. The only other contenders that come to mind is the Godfather and BTF.
LOTR trilogy was awesome. My only gripe is that there was no Tom Bombadill (SP?) and I think the ending should have stayed closer to the book...where Saruman attacks the Shire.
Also didn't care for that gheyass reunion series when Frodo wakes up after being rescued from the Mt. Doom by the Eagles.

Peter Jackson did an amazing job of staying true to the books and brining that beautiful world to life. The small parts he left out make sense (Tom Bombadil for instance). Makes you wonder why he decided to rape The Hobbit by changing the story.

They have held up pretty damn well.

It may be the greatest trilogy of all time. The score is incredible. Not quite as iconic and memorable as the Star Wars themes...but it's damn close. Each kingdom/race has its own theme, the fellowship theme is awesome.
Notice how good the practical effects look compared to some of the CGI in the Hobbit movies.
It's a simple tale of pure good vs pure evil...so maybe not quite as "adult" as Game of Thrones at its best in that regard.
But I've bought the damn thing in three formats now (DVD then Blu Ray now 4k).

Favorite film(s) of all time. View as one very long movie, not as a trilogy.
