Graduated from Bellville and will be at the game Friday. I don’t know a ton about Gilmer except they were the powerhouse in the years before I graduated in ‘09. Have some friends in Bellville and visited many times, nice little town within very close proximity of my favorite fun bass fishing lake. I will pulling for them since Duncanville knocked us out of the playoffs early.

My daughter goes to Smithson Valley so I hope they can pull off the upset.

I highly doubt it though.

Do parts of Texas play 8 or 6 man football? Is that part of UIL?

i grew up in West Texas (near San Angelo) and had a dozen or so 6 man teams around me. We got a fair amount of State Championship games at San Angelo Central Stadium due to it being closer to so many of the West Texas teams.

Yeah he was a tough kid. Pretty boring game overall. Mart just couldn't get anything going and was sloppy.

when i was in school Mart was a freaking powerhouse. i was blessed with the opportunity to watch Quan Cosby's arse from about 10-30 meters back in the 100 and 200.

I watched Bellville destroy Silsbee. That slot T is something to watch. #99 on defense is a monster.

They need to get rid of the spilt big/small playoffs. The teams play in the same class and districts all year and then get split up. Solely to have more teams make the playoffs.. and then you get 3-win teams etc and Desoto won’t play D’ville etc.

Old school football. Just a few years ago Bellville was about ready to run Rowe off because of the offense's inability to keep up with the spread athletes from WOS, Jasper, Silsbee, etc.

#99 is DJ Sanders, that's the DE I was talking about earlier in the thread. First cousins with Super Bowl champ Emmanuel Sanders who also graduated from Bellville. Sanders and 2 of the 3 RBs will be back next year as well.

It's only through Ballys but your smart TV could add the app. I did the 7 day free trial to watch and have every intention of canceling after Saturday games are over.

This is not how it is done anymore (at least in 1A-5A). The divisions are split every realignment and districts are made up of team’s only in that division (based upon enrollment) from the start of the year.

I do not know exactly when it changed, but it did used to be like how you explained. I graduated in 2009 and the districts were just made up of your ‘classification’ with no big/small split until the playoff teams were known.

Malakoff did a great job. Coach Driscoll does a great job as all the coaches that have teams there. i just wish the face baiter at Desoto gets drove. Duncanville is an open district, meaning they can take kids from other districts. Desoto was open but no more. The amount of recruiting in south part of metroplex is insane. Starts very early. There are a lot of handlers doing work. a good friend of mine, one of the SMU 9, takes care of the football program at Malakoff. Money well spent. Aledo has the so called booster club that takes care of business. Some of their kids don’t look like the kids growing up in Aledo. I live in a 5A school district. by dividing up into division 1 and 2 creates travel stupidity in playoffs. our district is in DFW and we can play teams in Amarillo or El Paso in the second thru fifth rounds.
