Awful, they didn't need rehab, rehab implies they were ever any good. They were never right from what I can tell. They needed someone to get the program built for the first time.

They were mediocre,

For Cincinnati, that wasn't much different than they had been before Kelly got there. Kelly raised the standard and left them in much better shape.

For ND, that mediocrity, the up then down seasons, was not what they were used to. The mediocrity was post-Holtz. That is what Kelly fixed there. And that is the closest parallel to LSU, him bringing a program back to the place it had been just a few years before.


All of that sort of shows how versatile Kelly is as a person in charge of a program. He can do whatever is needed to build, fix, rebuild, or sustain a program.
