The man getting a ride from an aircraft carrier or the men picking up the man just returned from outer space?

One of the few times you are happy to see a US aircraft carrier that is there specifically for you.

Depends on if he was a naval aviator before entering the Astronaut Program. Many of the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo astronauts were naval aviators first, so odds are good he could be one them. Thus, the sight of an aircraft carrier is something he’s seen for years.

Well Mr. Smarty Pants, two of the astronauts on that mission were Naval Aviators. The other was a geologist and only non-military man to walk on the moon.

So one of the guys was impressed.

This is true.

The first person that goes to Mars and back, will be up there.

I haven't heard that term for boobs before...but in WWII I know they named their life vests after Mae West.

This is an interesting thing to think about.

I believe the Apollo 11 mission to the Moon was a much bigger deal in 1969 than the first manned mission to Mars will be in whatever year it happens.

The Wright Bros. flew in 1903. Apollo 11 was in 1969, just eight years after the first man went to space. That's pretty frickin' amazing.

From the Moon landing itself to the televisions people were watching it on at the time, it was all so new and accomplished with such breakneck speed that it's hard to imagine a Mars landing topping it.

I thought nothing could ever raise my adrenaline level as high as working on a carrier flight deck the first day…..

Till I did it at night.
