They aren't making that much back. Sorry.

We're not gonna agree here.

Sure they will. But we can’t bet because they’ll still be making money on this long after we’re both dead.

Thank God.

You can be snarky all you want, they aren't recouping all of that money.

It’s like arguing with my dad who thinks everything still works exactly like they did in the 70s

Straight LDS exits would be hilarious. And I desperately crave it.

Can you blame him ? MLB does a poor job of promoting it's players.

This!

I hate the posters that try to be cool and say “I don’t know who this is” It just shows ignorance and makes yourself look stupid more than anything. I’m not a hardcore baseball guy but know who Shohei is.

Right?

I agree with you that the Dodgers and Yankees have proven you can’t buy World Series titles. Which is why you know this $700 million investment is way bigger than just wins and losses.

BUT, I just read that “the majority” of the contract will be deferred. Which means more than $350 million due to him after the 10 years. So, at most, he’s gonna be getting just under $35 million/year for the next 10 years. Which is nothing for them. They’re still in a position to add more dudes. Money can’t necessarily buy championships, but it can buy playoff appearances. Be hard for the Dodgers not to at least make the playoffs for the foreseeable future. But they have been anyway. And anything can happen in a 5-game series. Which will probably lead to those rounds going to best out of 7 or a re-seeding after each round. Or both. MLB doesn’t want a 110-win Ohtani Dodgers team having a couple bad games and bowing out in the 1st round. Need those Asian eyeballs glued to the tv for as long as possible.

The Dodgers have underachieved worse than the Braves the last 3 years

Not arguing otherwise, but there are a lot of Braves fans in the thread trying to hide their extreme concern behind discussions of whether or not the Dodgers will make back their money.

It's their money so they can spend it as they see fit, but they are crazy if they think they are ever gonna recoup all of that $700MIL.

I hate to see him go to my current playoff rival, but god damn that is a salary
Makes sense why Braves had no shot when we are talking about that type of money..

We’re not too far off from seeing a player get a billion dollar contract.

It almost happened this summer with a couple of soccer players
