Sources: Indiana is finalizing a deal to make James Madison coach Curt Cignetti the school’s next coach. He led JMU to an 11-1 season in 2023.

Gut punch for JMU.

But I'm sure they knew it was coming.

Only problem with that job is the competition you are up against and is Indiana ever gonna compete in today's NIL world
As good a coach and job he did at James Madison it may not matter as it will be an uphill battle to be relevant in the Big 10

Cignetti is a solid coach, great hire for IU. He’ll get them consistently bowl eligible every year with an occasional 9-10 win season which is the best they can hope for

Only issue is he’s already in his 60s

This isn’t a long term solution to fix Indiana

There is no long term fix for Indiana in football.

Guy’s in his early 60s. Nice pay day for him, even if he doesn’t win.

It’s a win-win for Cignetti.

Mark Cuban, an IU alum, is helping IU with their NIL.

He'll be on the retread shelf in three seasons. Indiana football is career suicide.

Doesn’t matter. He’ll be 65 in 3 years. At that time, he’ll either be retired or in an advisory role.

This is a money move for Cignetti. And maybe he wins 6 ballgames a year. That would be optimal, but unlikely.

I've always wondered if NIL would help lower tier football programs like that which have established traditions in other sports. There has got to be money there and a want to win. Maybe they can buy their way in like CU is trying to do.

That, and now with the Top G5 conference winner getting into the college football playoff starting next season, he’d have likely a better path with JMU in the Belt.

But I’m sure Indiana is paying him triple what JMU could promise.

From a wins/losses standpoint, yea.

He’s also gonna now clear $4-5 million yearly.

Sounds pretty good to me.

I was wondering why he would take this job, makes sense.
