Diplomas for Sale: Only in Louisiana

Unless I am missing something, this article states that diplomas are for sale. Students at unapproved schools do not need to make any effort to attend classes and pass tests in order to prove that they have learned anything. How is this fair to those students and parents who go through the legitimate school process in order to earn a diploma? I’m not against homeschooling as long as those students are held to the same requirements as those students who attend approved public and private schools. Diplomas should be earned and not sold.

This one is cheap. Schools like Southern and Grambling charge 10x that for a worthless diploma.

This is nothing new. There was a guy by the name of James Kirk (yes, his real name) who had a diploma mill called LaSalle University located in Mandeville during the 1990s.

Most jobs aren’t allowed to do certain types of testing anymore due to lawsuits claiming racial bias.
Credentials replaced that as a result, but it has meant credentials get more and more watered down.

Oh let me tell you about information technology certifications.
They're a marketing scam to lock you into a product. You think a Cisco certified engineer is ever going to look at Juniper or Extreme? They all do it. The worst of it is the tests cost anywhere from $150-500 depending on the exam. Some vendors like VMware force you to take one of their courses (another few thousand for that) if you've never held any of their certs. What's worse about this is you can find "braindumps" of many of these exams allowing someone with little knowledge of the subject to pass in some cases.
In IT sales if you're a systems engineer or architect more than likely you're forced to get a few because your employer needs it to up their partner level with a manufacturer. This is so the reseller gets preferential treatment such as better margins, sales leads, non-resalable software licenses, etc.

Cisco might be the worst for this. Their exams always throw in some Cisco specific product knowledge questions. I've thankfully been around long enough to be able to let all that stuff lapse.

If you know me I'd would the first to shut down govt. schools. But we have to be very careful in what we replace them with. Dee's Dance Academy may teach young girls how to dance well but how do they handle chemistry, advanced math, and physics ?

I especially hate Cisco exams for this reason. Everything is so proprietary and changes on a whim. They're worse than Microsoft on "embrace, extend, extinguish".
