A&M will be going the route of Nebraska after they fired Bo Pelini because he only won 8-10 games a year

Agreed. Elko = Stoops with training wheels
Ironic when you consider Bjork rides a tricycle to work

They all went 7-5.
So then you have to stratify by how hard it is to win there.
I like to start by looking at how long since national success. Kentucky has a national title as recently as 1950. Duke while unclaimed has 2 in 1941 and 1936. Tamu last one was 1939.
Another great one is if there is a common coach. It’s really a pure test because the coach is the same only the programs change. The Bear had a winning % of 72% at uk. 64% at tamu.
Let’s look at injuries. Duke lost Riley Leonard but jimbo lost not just his first string but also the second string qb.
I think no matter how you look at it the most impressive 7-5 performance when you think about how hard it is to succeed at their respective programs AND key injuries sustained jimbos is the most impressive and the best coaching performance.

I thought they'd have been better off with Jumbo than Stoops but the more I looked into it I'm glad Stoops is staying put, he's a competent coach that gets more with less
After watching UK beat a top 10 team on the road (great win by the way Kentucky) I'm glad he's staying put
How many top 10 road games did Jimbo win again?

I think same thing, Stoops has better resume as a SEC HC already and Elko coming in as an ACC HC with middle of the pack career but seems like A&M thinks hiring him is if he can win at Duke with our resources he should can win here, kinda like Penn St hiring James from Vandy compares to this hire, they won at lesser schools therefore they can win here giving more resources and talent, James has been consistent at Penn St but will not win NC, can Elko?

I think Stoops has done a great job of building a program at Kentucky but he's still a mediocre coach. There is a ceiling for what he can accomplish at Kentucky and most of it is Kentucky but some of it is his own inadequacies on gameday.
The players are often well developed but they're really not doing all that much. They have their offense and defense and they just try to execute it. It is a very "I'm coaching at Alabama or Georgia" mentality for a coaching working in Lexington.

Same. You’ll see my posts from last night. I was very positive about the stoops hire and thought he could be dangerous at atm.
He’s a good coach and knows this league.
That would have been a safer hire for atm.
This is more of a comfort hire for them imo based on his familiarity with atm and continuity as it sounds like he will largely keep Jimbos staff which may not be a good thing as most would think you’d like a clean start when a coach has underachieved for 6 years but continuity is obviously critical for them so here we are.
Stoops at atm would’ve been scary dangerous
Elko is unknown

Stoops would have to start over. While Elko not so much. He knows the Texas HSs and many HS coaches in Texas like him. That was in another post by a Texas A&M fan.

Laugh if you want Bill but Stoops is a good coach. He would’ve been a good hire
I’m not sure about Elko but we will see.
It’ll be interesting to see what the contract says

A bazillion dollars over 10 years guaranteed (even if he leaves for a better job or just retires)

How can we overlook the fact the fan base rose up and changed a coaching hire in 24 hours but you still have weirdos on sidelines instead of cheerleaders?

I never like Stoops because the way Mizzou got screwed in several of Kentucky games over the years. Plus, I do not see him as a great HC. He is a good HC that is it. Elko knows the players and staff and knows the HS coaches in Texas. Texas HS coaches like Elko. It is the right hire for Texas A&M. Stoops doesn't know Texas HS very well. It will be a learning curve to go around and meet the HS coaches and so forth.
