Is it just me or does this guy seem super underrated?

Offers from LSU, Ole Miss, Texas, Auburn, Miss State, Florida State, A&M, Tennessee, Louisville and Cincinnati.

What am I missing here?

Seems like we got ourselves a dog!

Woodland has really good speed. The main concern with him is his size (155 lbs), and will he retain his speed when he adds 30-40 lbs.

Yea but he’s only a 3 star. Same with Causey. Good offer list. Good film. Coaches love his game

But man he’s only a 3 star and the board tells us that those kids are typically not very good.

Nevermind that we have a ton of 4 stars…we just have too many dang 3 stars for their liking

I have watched Causey plAy live. Plays in a small division and that probably limits his exposure. On top of that only one team in that division actually throws the ball and that Causey has virtually no statistics…I can tell you that his guy is never open.

Here are the facts. If this class finishes the way it is now, then in 2 years we’ve signed one 3 star DT… maybe 2 if you count Breaux.

That would also give us one 4 star CB in Johnson, and five 3 star CBs.

These are the positions guys are looking at and we’re having issues here on the field. FWIW, we’ve recruited other positions well, including QB, RB, WR, OL, TE, EDGE, LB, and Safety. It’s been two years in a row with subpar CB and DT recruiting. Ed Orgeron had the same issue on the OL, and we saw how that turned out.

Yep I get all that.

There are holes in the class.

That doesn’t change the fact all 3 stars are not created equal and all 5 stars are not either.

People overreact around here that’s also a fact.

See my post below Rocky. Logic has no place on a board all about emotion I know but try to understand star rankings are not ALWAYS accurate.

All 5 stars aren’t deserving just as all 3 stars aren’t rated accurately

High 4 & 5-Star CB players check all the boxes:
-speed (40, 100, etc.)
-height (CBs usually 6'-6' 3")
-length (arm wingspan)
-quickness (change of direction, twitch)
-hips (flexibility)
-weight (175-200)

PJ doesn't check all the boxes. Yet. But weight can be added and most of the other measurable cannot be modified greatly. But that's why he's a 3*...

Yea I understand there are certain metrics that people love to look at but I’ll trust BK and his evaluations over these services all day. That’s all I’m saying.

Cordale Flott was a guy that I had a hard time thinking he would see the field bc of his size / weight. He really never put on much mass but was one of our best corners on a couple teams.

The Robertson kid from La Tech comes to mind as well. Some kids are just good ball players. I know you don’t want to build a program around trying to find those kids but man to act like they’re not out there is disingenuous.

There’s a big gulf between saying you are either getting 5 star guys or you’re taking a 3rd string guy from ull in the portal. There is some in between there but you wouldn’t know it from reading some of the crap that gets posted

He doesn't have much highlight film, but it looks like he has quick twitch and breaks on the ball well. He's also an aggressive and willing tackler. I can see him earning playing time after time in the S&C and with some development.

Yet those that recruit at a super high level, top 3 to 4 classes for multiple years play in the CFP and win NCs.

Macro data is never wrong. Yes, some 5s are busts, some 3s are studs....but talent wins in the end.

That's just it. There are absolutely 2 and 3-star prospects in the class of 2024 that will go on to be decade-long NFL starters, but identifying those guys is difficult. If you only sign "elite" prospects, your bust rate will be much lower.

There is a direct correlation between roster talent based on recruiting ranking and success on the field. See Ole Miss vs. UGA. Lane and Pete have coached their asses off this season getting everything they can out of that roster but when you go up against an NFL farm team, it doesn't matter how you draw it up, you're going to lose too many one-on-one matchups to sustain success over four quarters.

I'm all for LSU identifying underrated prospects, primarily in-state, but you are putting a ceiling on your success if you're not putting together top 5 rosters. Kelly had this exact issue at ND.

Him, Foster and Causey all have good tape.

Ideally I think they’d have a year to develop with guys like Toviano, Sage, Hughes, Stamps, Welch and Jordan Allen stepping into bigger roles (+ maybe a transfer / Denver Harris, if he can get his stuff together).

I know people are losing their minds about the secondary right now and we’ll be young again next year but very talented.

Everyone signs 3-stars. Georgia currently has 5 committed. Alabama has 7 committed and LSU has 9. Michigan has 11.

LSU has 16 4-stars, more than every school except Georgia and Oregon.

Dumb narrative.

Flott was a scare crow when he arrived at LSU and needed quite a bit of time to "weight-up". That he is now with NYG and sees PT, more power to him.
