Fence Replacement Question

I would appreciate any input, please.
I need a 1/4 section or maybe a little more replaced. Called a small fencing company who keeps advertising Ion community page to take a look and provide estimate. He took a look, but I’ve yet to receive an oral or written estimate for what I asked. He wants to replace the entire fence row at roughly $3,400. It might be 60 feet if I recall. He didn’t measure, nor tell me type of wood, etc. it was dark by the the he got there so he used his iPhone flash light. Only that the portion I wanted repairing needed to have a pole replaced and 1 added (wind blew it down).
Does $3,400 for 60 feet sound right with no other info re rate and wood costs, etc.? I still want an estimate for the repair as the wood can literally be used as it is whole. It is an older fence, so I might consider replacing entire row depending if this estimate seems fair
Jefferson Parish
Thoughts? Thank you.

$56/foot is too expensive.
See if Harris Fencing will drive that far.
They did our fence in Baton Rouge and I think did an excellent job at a fair price.

Why?
Breakdown:
$3400 to do it
$0 to not do it

$56/liner foot sounds high. I think my post-Ida quotes were in the low 40s, and that included resetting most of my poles (no new ones that I recall).
Hate to guess, but chances are he's just going with basic pine; do you know what you already have?
Since most of the fence will be staying put, have you tried reaching out to a standard handyman company. They should be able to reset and install a new pole based on the other 3/4 of the side staying put.

He didn’t tell me what type of wood he’d use. I’m unsure what type fence it is already except that it is 6 ft. It’s knotted, so maybe pine. Or possibly cedar. I wasn’t involved when the fence was replaced some years back after Katrina. My ex-husband had found someone to do it. Good idea on handy man. Will check. I can understand a fencing company wants to do good work and I don’t mind considering his recommendation if the price is fair. Life is expensive at the moment so I’d rather just repair if I can. Thank you.

I spent almost $2k on materials for a 50 ft section in Jefferson Parish last year.
This does not include labor, as I did the work myself.
I used 6 ft cedar pickets, which cost $658 delivered. Pine would be a few hundred dollars cheaper, but not enough to significantly reduce the price of the overall project.
In the grand scheme, the cedar was a significant upgrade and well worth the cost.

Ok thank you. So adding in the extra ft plus labor and haul away, $3,400 isn’t off the mark. I’ve got another company coming over to estimate. It’s the fireman who have a fencing company, I guess as detail work. Technically, I could redo half the row, 1/2 is still good, actually all but 1/4. Will ask about the cedar. I think my ex husband has cedar installed when we did the side fence some years back. I’d be ok with $1,5k to $2k for 1/4 to half row in the back done. Thanks for your advice.

Call 5 companies and have all of them come out at the same time; tell them what you want and when you want your quote.

For reference, I recently had about 250’ replaced plus a gate and haul off of old fence for $5.6k. Included 6”x6” posts around the gate and a trimmed topper on the front facing portion.

10 wax-leaf ligustrums, 5 ft apart for under $100

Ok. Got the quote. $50 per foot at 60 ft is $3,000 for labor. The total is $4700, the difference being the material. Includes adding a few more posts than I have and quickcrete, etc.
The repair for quarter panel is $400 for labor, with $580 for total. The difference is supplies. 12 6 ft treated pine at $5.07 each, 2 metal posts w/ caps, concrete, etc., and bracing the back of it until I decide to do full replacement.

I am not sure if I correctly understand but it sounds like your old [existing] fence got blown down, maybe just leaning over badly.
If this is the case, and the boards are still intact, maybe the fence could be lifted back upright and new post installed if needed. Or the old post could be re-cemented in place.
I repaired several different peoples fences that had blown over and they look very good when I was finished. Doing this was fairly easy after I figured out how to "jack" the fence back to an upright position.
I could do this by myself way cheaper than rebuilding the fence.

That's mighty cheap. Can you give us the business that did it?
