Why did Cincinnati hire Scott Satterfield?

Genuinely curious. He was the definition of meh at Louisville...started 8-5 (5-3), then went:
4-7 (3-7)
6-7 (4-4)
7-5 (4-4)
And UC thought, "shite yeah, give us some of that!"
Bearcats had some juice with Fickell, surely they could've gotten someone better. After today's loss to UCF, Bearcats are 2-7 and 0-6 in conference.
And getting press conference quotes like:

and...

Total disaster.
(Louisville is now 8-1 after getting rid of him and hiring Jeff Brohm.)

"We were a very undisciplined football team tonight. That pisses me off.
"We have three more weeks and an offseason to get that fixed... That's not who we want to be. It's embarrassing," Satterfield said.

Yeah that was a weird hire. He must be close w/one of their big boosters. Maybe he'll turn it around but considering the run of HCs they've had they were bound to finally miss on one.
He's not going to get much rope though. Losing to Miami Ohio for the first time since 2005 has got to piss some people off.

Last November Satterfield went to our AD and wanted a contract extension. AD said no. Satterfield I guess felt like the administration did not have confidence in him so he got out before he got fired. I have no idea why Cincinnati wanted him

Jimmy Sexton worked a number on UC.

I asked myself the same thing when they hired him. He’s awful.

Best candidate available for the position they had open?

There's absolutely no way they couldn't have done better

They wanted to gift Louisville, and I'm sure UL fans are eternally grateful.

For sure, the odds were they'd miss eventually, but Satterfield seemed like such a lazy hire.
They could have dipped back into the MAC and gotten Jason Candle from Toledo, or taken a flyer on a young coordinator like Jesse Minter at Michigan, whose dad was HC at Cincy for years. Hell, if they had waited a few more days, Jim Leonhard would've been there for the taking.

He was home and answered the phone?

0 conference wins, 7 losses already and they haven't even played Kansas yet and they don't play Texas at all.

They were tired of having their coaches hired away by bigger schools so they hired a mediocre coach that no one else would want.

Fun update today as Louisville clinches a spot in the ACC Championship Game and Cincinnati loses by 3 tuds to West Virginia.
One of the worst coaching hires I’ve ever seen.
