You’re not speaking ill, you’re speaking truth
Knight was a bully and a piece of shite, miserable human. He alienated everyone interacted with because he was a petulant overgrown baby. The world is better off without him.

Yet he won 3 NC’s and probably had the single greatest season in modern college basketball.
With the exception of a very few, the guys that played for him would run through wall for him. Played for a hard nose coach that took a similar approach as coach Knight, while I hated it at the time, I’m a better person for it today.
No doubt, in his later years he alienated some friendships. But, if I had a son that was talented enough to play at that level, I would want him to play for a coach like Knight. The life lessons that come out of that are invaluable. You come out capable and prepared to deal with life and not cower or pout every time something doesn’t go your way.

He finally beat him! It was Daddy Dale's birthday yesterday (and Saban too).

How was Knight not T'd up in 1987 Elite 8?
Still maintain that game was the biggest screw job any LSU team ever got. The refereeing in that game was a fricking disgrace. Should have been in NO playing in the Final 4. Everything possible was done to give Indiana that game.

was in Houston by the Astrodome when LSU lost that game to Indiana in 1987. I was like 19 years old and that game loss stuck with me almost like 1/9/12.
I was at the game in Cincinnati. That and the Saints screw job in The NFC championship game were the two toughest losses I’ve ever had to deal with as a fan.

He turned 88 a few days ago.

Daddy Dale challenged Knight to a naked, caged, oil wrestling match. Would have been great on pay per view.

Knight may have been a jerk but he was a much better coach than Brown.
Ain't no musta been....he WAS a jerk and a bully and a tyrant.
And being better coach than Brown ain't a high bar.
I will say in that '87 game, the game where Knight allegedly made the famous quote about Brown that's posted every time this comes up, Knight had a much more talented team than us and we were up 9 late in a game we had no business being in much less winning. Alas, Dale went to the 4-corners and quit getting the ball to Nikita who Indiana could not stop. That and some no calls on fouls and missed free throws by Fess and we lose a heartbreaker.

I may be in a minority, but I loved Bob Knight. Just a true army never happy curmudgeon.
Didn’t put up with bullshite. He never would’ve lasted in today’s world.

I wonder if Dale is going to make the funeral?

quote:agreed, Knight was very successful and had some good qualities, and of course he did it his way.
Knight not only knew how to coach basketball, he made his student athletes attend class.
But he was also an arse. Read "Season on the Brink." It must've been emotionally exhausting to play for him.

Dale Brown out lived him but he never out coached him!

All true. But it should be pointed out Dale went to the four corners in the three games we won earlier in that tourney against Ga tech, Temple and DePaul as well. Now when Dale ate away the last couple minutes of the first half in the 81 Final Four going into the four corners when Isiah Thomas was on the bench in foul trouble, that was coaching ineptitude at its worst and likely was why Bobby Knight felt about Dale like he did. But there is also little doubt Dale outcoached him in 87 and almost beat him with a significantly less talented team and an absolute shite show from the referees.

Absolutely untrue. See above.

I remember the game but cannot remember the refs being bad; but am sure they were. All I remember is that Brown played at the end not to lose and then lost.
