Probably not at atm.
Posted on 10/30/23 at 10:41 am to Paddyshack
any flammable substance

Superheated steam can heat flammable liquids to their flashpoint, which would then emit vapors that are easily ignited. Additionally, steam can heat flammable liquids to their autoignition temps. So, Yes.

I would imagine it depends on the substance.
Paper? probably not due to moisture in the steam
Propane or other flammable gases? probably

This could all be bullshite, but you sound confident and used big words so I believe you.

Anyone who has been through demolition school in the Army can answer this ... and the answer is yes.
Even paper.
Superheat the steam to above 800° C and it'll ignite anything flammable.
How to superheat it to that temperature is a trade secret but ... it's pretty easy.
It's a methodology used to cause secondary ignition and explosion especially in enemy processing facilities.

Ignite? Well, it is a heat source. Keeping it burning might be harder than expected.
Also, flammable and inflammable mean the same thing.

It is always a fun thing to put out there.
Someone is going to reply with a dictionary entry that tries to differentiate the two, but flammable comes from inflammable. We slowly started converting years ago because of the confusion in the translation.
Anyone who has watched Archer should know this.

That's the info I was looking for. I guess it's off to google now.

There's videos on the interwebs of people burning paper with supe heated steam.

Just to be clear, you're using a cartoon as a reference?

Not enough info to give a good answer.
Superheated steam could be at any temperature above the boiling point of water at the pressure it of the system it is in. So 212.1 degrees Fahrenheit is superheated at atmospheric pressure.
To reach the autoignition temp of gasoline you would need to get close to 500 degF. I'm not sure you generally see superheated steam that hot.
