I fit that description and don’t know anyone who doesn’t see Ukraine for what it is - a chance for democrats and the GOPe to launder cash.

Now you're asking a new question?
My original point was that Putin was bombing Georgian cities in 2008. You brought up the cause of the war. Putin was simply meddling before 2008, but in 2008 he was murdering.
Putin had no business violating Georgia's sovereignty from 2000-2008, nor bombing its cities in 2008. Putin is a murderous despot.

How many young American men are you willing to sacrifice so you can feel like YOU did something?
You let the mask slip with your previous comment about being part of a "less self-centered generation".
Your "concern" about this is nothing more than Narcissism.
You are content to spend others money and let others bleed so you can virtue-signal about how much you care.

quote:You've addressed neither the cause of war in 2008, nor the cause of action on Putin's part prior to that.
My original point was that Putin was bombing Georgian cities in 2008. You brought up the cause of the war.
South Ossetians and Abkhazians saw themselves as ethnically and culturally distinct from Georgians and sought increasing autonomy after Georgia gained its independence in 1991. At that point, years before Putin, fighting commenced between Georgian troops and Ossetian militias. Hundreds were killed, but tens of thousands were displaced from their homes.
In 1992, again years before Putin, Abkhazia embroiled in a larger war. This time, there were widespread atrocities. Georgian troops were accused of mass executions, rape and forced expulsions of Abkhazian civilians. Russian troops deployed as peacekeepers in both regions, maintaining an uneasy truce between the separatists and Georgia, once again, this was years before Putin.
South Ossetia and Abkhazia consolidated their de facto independence from Georgia years before Putin with Russian support, despite international non-recognition. In the late 1990's - early 2000's tensions escalated. Russia issued passports to citizens of the breakaway republics. Despite Russian and international peacekeeping efforts, Georgia continued occasional military incursions into Putin's tenure.
However, in 2003 there was one of those pesky revolutions associating Soros with a money laundering nation. In the Rose Revolution (Rose is a color BTW), Mikheil Saakashvili usurped power in Georgia. He announced his intent to retake South Ossetia and Abkhazia by force, and to affiliate with the west to do it.
Not great.
In 2008, after the idiotic NATO Budapest Memorandum, Saakashvili was feeling his oats. He moved on the breakaways. Georgian troops opened fire on Russian peacekeepers, the Russian response in 2008 was a FAFO demonstration to Saakashvili.
Much of Soros’s NABU Ukraine game (2013-present) leaned on his Georgian stooges, I mean supporters, especially Saakashvili (who had to flee Georgia). David Sakvarelidze, the dude who Obama/Biden/Soros used to undercut Viktor Shokin, was a BFF of Saakashvili. All this as Saakashvili faced numerous criminal charges in Georgia including extortion, embezzlement, attempted assassination, and a litany in Ukraine as well. Eventually Ukraine exiled him. Now he's in jail in Georgia.

Don't be. I understand the US in part of NATO, but at the very least if Ukraine is the problem they're telling us, at least let NATO deal with it.

Why are center-right boomers so concerned with Ukraine
They are bored because they have small families because they all took birth control, and they want something entertaining to be on the news. They need a cause because their lives are empty of duty.

How snuggly with the Russian bear must one be, to believe that Georgia initiated war with Russia?

Unless I'm missing something ..any Americans that died serving in Ukraine did so completely of their own free will.

Based upon the year I was born, I am classified as a “boomer”! I have no idea as too what “center/right” refers to! But of this one thing I am absolutely sure of! I don’t give a rats hiney as to what happens to or in Ukraine! I do care wholeheartedly what happens in America. To many people on this board use a very wide brush when referring to “boomers”! I do wish this bs woukd stop

quote:Why were international peacekeepers there?
Georgia making “incursions “ into Georgia.
Why are they still there?
Oh ...
well ...
... there is that little detail about past atrocities when, as you put it, "Georgia made incursions into Georgia."
---
What exactly is your objection to a people's right to self-determination?
• Georgia declared its independence from Russia. That's fine with you.
• Abkhazia and South Ossetia concomitantly declared their independence from Georgia. That's not fine with you?
Why?
Perhaps the more important question is, why would Abkhazia and South Ossetia desire independence from Georgia?
That answer, as it turns out, is that ethnic differences render them vulnerable to atrocities by Georgians. It may seem like a little thing to you, but some folks are actually put off when their daughters are raped in front of their families, or when all inhabitants of neighboring villages are murdered in mass executions.
Abkhaz and South Ossetians enjoyed considerable autonomy in the USSR. But when Georgia declared its independence, it simultaneously decried Abkhaz/Ossetian doing the same. That seems to be a skosh pharisaical. Does it not?
In taking these tortured positions, driven solely by Putin-is-the-Devil "rationale," you come across like the kind of CNN-ite who dons a "Save the Uyghurs" shirt as he laces his Nikes.
