After the worse crash in Louisiana history you would think our politicos would want to start improving our highways and interstates. Nope nothing to see here.

What stopped it this time?

The committee didn’t approve it to move to a Senate vote.

But trucking companies cried foul over a plan to add tolls to the bridge, a view a majority of committee members seemed to side with.
The vote fell mostly along party lines with Republicans voting to kill the partnership and Democrats voting to advance it to the State Bond Commission for approval.

Was making this a toll bridge the only way it was feasible?
It seems like that could cause issues on a major Interstate thoroughfare (I'm not against toll bridges in principle, it just seems the logistics of such a thing on a coast to coast trucking route could create some serious logistical issues). Wasn't that going to be the only spot on I-10 subject to a toll? Didn't a similar scheme in Mobile (to replace their tunnel) get killed for similar reasons?

Cut and pasted from the linked article:
I wonder who the developer is?
quote:
A plan to replace an aging Interstate 10 bridge that connects Louisiana to Texas was dealt a major blow Tuesday, after a state panel killed the replacement plan because state officials and private developers could not agree on its particulars.
I wonder who the developer is?

That doesn't even make sense. That article seems full of frickery on the article end.

There’s a new administration coming in very soon. Maybe they don’t like this deal.

There's obviously more at play here than muh republicans and private developers killed it.

Louisiana wants to add tolls to build a bridge when Louisiana has paid for it ten-fold in income and gasoline taxes and they squandered the monies. It's their job to build it. If every other state can build stuff, why can't Louisiana?

Well people in Baldwin County actually voted it down because they didnt want a toll
It wasnt the legislature

It was a p3 project. Yes they need tolls to build it. Lake Charles has a loop. If you don’t want to pay toll take the loop.
This state is broke $$$$.

If there is anything the entire state should agree on it is to make it as easy as possible for Texas money to come this way.

Are they only going to redo the eastbound lanes?
