My friend sent me this

quote:

Pels took 40 corner 3s this preseason per Lopez. Only one team took more. Indy.

Last year Pels shot 37.5% on corner 3s. Take a guess at what it was in the preseason?

42.5

Oh snap. Are pels going to be an intelligent 3pt shooting team?

I’ve been beating the OC drum since last season and the Borrego drum since he was hired. Just having the offense be a focus rather than an afterthought will make a big difference.

Lets see if our offense pre-season translates to what we do in the regular season.

that being said --- Daniels has been a pleasant shooting surprise.

3.0 attempts, 41.7% (4 games)

Same with herb

2.5 attempts, 50.0% (4 games)

All things considered, hell even Hawkins did fairly well. What we learned about him is its going to take time, he's VERY streaky.

7.5 attempts, 33.3% (4 games)
Game 1: 1/6
Game 2: 3/6
Game 3: 5/11
Game 4: 1/7

I think our 3PAs will struggle while trey is out but one way to mitigate that is to take better 3s. Guys like herb and Dyson should hit corner 3s at a good rate

I think we’ll struggle from 3 as well but to me we need to absolutely dominate the league in paint points which I think we can with Zion. Again Zion is healthy it’ll help the 3 pt issues.

DD...shooting 3 3-pt shots on 23 minutes per game
Herb...shooting 2.5 3-pt shots on 18 minutes per game
BI...shooting 2.8 3-pt shots on 22 minutes per game

What we need...DD & Herb taking 4 or 5 3s with DD taking 40% of his shots from 3 & Herb taking 50% of his shots from 3. Need a 3-pt "make" % of 36% from both of them.

The key...is to get BI back up to at least 30% of his shots being from 3 pt range. His past 4 yrs with Pels he has has been 35%/34%/23% and 19.6% this past season. That downward trend needs to be reversed. He needs at least 6 per game, which should still leave him with around 12 shots per game from midrange or at the hoop.

Add CJ and Trey to these 3...and we should be alright...as far as getting up about 35 3s per game. On this subject...my biggest worry is BI...NOT taking his 6 per game.

As ATL said, a lot of us have been beating this drum for a while. It’s not just the efficiency of the corner three, but the location. When Zion gets going downhill, the help nearly always comes from the baseline. If we can make teams pay for that and at least get them in rotation, everything opens up.

How long is Trey supposed to be out for? We need his 3 pt shot.

I would guess early to mid December.
