This is the second time I've seen this term. Are you being redundant or specific, and why?

Correct. Guys from the nearest (or available) CIF/CRF are usually sent to augment Secret Service and other Embassy assets.

Nothing can be derived or assumed from these pictures.

Though I will say, the way this was treated compared to how Trump's photo with SEALs in Iraq is extremely hypocritical by the media.

Sometimes in the ME they'll have a mix. But SS CAT guys look like federal law enforcement agents wearing tactical gear. If you know what you're looking at, they're very easy to tell apart from other folks.

SS CAT guys
how do they decide who gets this detail? Is it like a rotation thing within the SS or do you have to be selected.

I'm not SS or anything close to it, so I can't answer directly other than to say I would imagine it's like all the other Federal LE agencies - have to be an agent for several years, then apply and be selected.

They're federal agents, part of the protective detail, and have some specialized training focused on their specific duties. They aren't "operators", special operations, or anything of the sort...which isn't a knock on them. They do what they do and they do it well - but there's a reason other folks are brought in for support. Otherwise, they'd just being more CAT guys.

This was basically a war zone though, how often does a President go into a foreign war zone?

SS is a Fed LE Agency. Nothing “secret” about it. Their demographics are probably similar to all the other Fed LE agencies. Vets, college kids, former cops, etc.

Protecting the President is just one of, albeit the most well known, SS’s duties.

I’m pretty sure that’s a Delta guy there in conjunction with potato heads visit

Exxxxxxxactly.

He's Delta he POTUS convoy detail and they make themselves especially and purposefully visible in hot AOs. (Whereas in friendly AOs they are often mistaken for Secret Service because they are in coats and ties walking beside or near decoy vehicles.)

They're basically human shields acting as eyes on the ground. They've got permission to light anything up that even looks suspicious.
