I use maven b3 8x30s on my chest for both, meostar 12x50s if I have a tripod, and sig Zulu 6 16x42s if I don’t.

I think a 10x42 is the best compromise but once I started using a tripod, I realized how unstable I was with 10s off hand. I now have 8s or image stabilized binos for hand held use. Stability is far more important than magnification for me.

For a good bit of Western hunting, you need 15x binos or a spotting scope. More looking, less walking.
8x for all around SE hunting. We have long shots and field edges, so I often carry my 15x.
