I am flying to CO for a hunt next week. My gun case is equipped with 2 Travel Sentry locking hasps. Will this be acceptable or should I add additional locks for good measure?

I think the rule might be if it has a hasp for a lock you have to use that spot. I don't think you need to add extra.

Be flexible. A lot of airline employees don’t know TSA rules and there is really no arguing with them. Here is a discussion on the matter.

Better have “external” locks as well. Just to be safe.

Last December fly from MSY to Amarillo and was told very different things at the two different airports.

Also be sure that all locks are in proper working order. Don’t want something stupid and last second ruining your trip.

I have flown to Corpus Christi where they do not even ask for an ID to claim a gun case. That trip is easy!

Depends on the lock and case. If the case can be opened with locks, it won't fly. Some Travel Sentry locks appear to have some play in them (the cable locks)

Get locks with as little play as possible so that the case cannot open more than a cm or so. You will have to sign a declaration that the firearm is not loaded and the declaration will be put into the case. Ammo can go in the case as well.

Flew with a pistol with AA last month and was no problem at all.

Print the rules and bring them with you. Also seen the workers try and say you need a TSA lock and that is definitely wrong !

I just flew to north dakota with two shotguns. The lady checking my bags tried to tell me I needed TSA approved locks which is a lie. I showed her what where it said on TSA's website that you didn't. Other than that no problems. In Minot i had to show an ID to get my guns in new orleans he said hell naw baw dis new orleans ya guns with the luggage. it was much easier than i thought traveling on a plane. Basically check it you have to unlock it to show them the guns you sign a slip saying they arent loaded put the slip in case lock it back up and youre done

TSA agents are usually full of shite and don't care about the rules.

I had a instance in Omaha where this young woman wanted to show me her authority with a flashlight I had.

It had been through no less than 6 other airports but she claimed that the flashlight was a "tactical" flashlight with a glass break on it (it didn't). It was a nice Nitecore flashlight but nothing about it tactical.
I asked her if she thought a glass breaker on a flashlight worked on a plexiglass window. She didn't think that was too funny.
Then I asked if she thought I could get the emergency doors opens faster or the flashlight through a plexigalss window.

I almost got arrested that day.

Had a buddy get delayed because the TSA rules say two locks, so that is what he had. His case had 4 lock holes. They turned him around.

He had to leave the airport and go buy 4 locks at the nearest hardware store and get on the next flight.

A print out of the rules did not matter or help him.
