According to the new report, Louisiana is the 5th lowest state when it comes to Property Tax Burden. Here are the five lowest:
1 (lowest). Alabama - 1.41%
2. Tennessee - 1.71%
3. Oklahoma - 1.74%
4 (tie). Delaware - 1.77%
4 (tie). Arkansas - 1.77%
5. Louisiana - 1.95%
For comparison here are the highest Property Tax Burdens in the US:
1 (highest). Maine - 5.48%
2. Vermont - 5.31%
3. New Hampshire - 5.11%
4. New Jersey - 4.98%
5. Rhode Island - 4.48%
Now again, like previous research pieces, the new WalletHub piece did point at Louisiana's problems with sales taxes. Much like The Tax Foundation, WalletHub ranked Louisiana poorly with Total Sales & Excise Tax Burden, where Louisiana ranked as the 5th worst in the nation.

Tennessee, which has the 2nd lowest property tax burden, also has no state income tax. However, it appears their state sales tax is tied for 2nd highest in the country, at 7%.
Appears they rank 4th in the country is lowest total state tax burden. LINK .

But astronomical insurance and they steal the tax money we do pay.

Our overall tax burden is middle of the pack though. According to WalletHub we are #28th in total taxes.

This is absolutely and demonstrably false, though. Consumption taxes benefit the ultra wealthy at the expense of the middle class.

Regardless of how high or low the taxes are, it cannot be argued that we have some of the worst infrastructure, schools and government programs in the country. Not all of that is just because we don’t have higher funding; a lot of that is poor management and politics.

The ultra wealthy spend a lot of money thus paying a lot more taxes

While all taxes suck, I prefer consumption taxes, such as sales tax, to income or property taxes.
Tennessee is doing it right.

Absolutely. Voluntary transactions instead of forced removal.

We are one of the poorest and least educated states, but we are in the middle of the pack in taxes. Not good.

Agreed. The fact that 22 states have lower taxes than LA is pretty sad considering what we get for our money.

We are rated about the same as Texas. Think about what Texas gets and what we get for our tax dollars. Think about their overall economy compared to others.

Texas actually has a thriving economy
LA is a welfare state

I reviewed the WH list and I noticed they didn’t include local sales taxes. EBR is 5%. Add that and see what you get. I bet we pay more property tax than they say we do too here in EBR. Then there’s a big sewer fee and garbage fee.

TN really can be great place to live. You get all 4 seasons, loads of outdoor activities, forest, river, lake, hills, mountains, flat lands, …
When Dad got promoted to working based in the West Memphis oil refinery he and mom went way in depth figuring out where to live. They picked TN suburbs over MS and AR for several reasons including taxation of all kinds.
