So I did a rewatch about a month ago, damn this show is so damn great. It's among my top 2. Breaking bad is up there as well. Don't care to figure out which I like more.
A few observations. The first time I saw season 5 was 6 years after watching the first four. Upon rewatch that season is a little disappointing. Still really good television, but disappointing comparitively speaking to the other four seasons. Season 2 is also underrated.
My main issues with season five are the McNulty regressing into alcoholism again, and then the fake serial killer storyline which seems really farfetched. The biggest thing is that it really crunches the timeline to where they rush through the while Marlo Stanfield ending.
But there were some things I liked. The ending for the kids from season four are tragic, but make sense. I really liked the new room storyline. Bubbles also had a great ending.
Still, my favorite seasons are 3 and 4 (yeah surprise surprise). But to me that's just peak Wire.

The only bad things about the first 4 seasons are Hamsterdam and the shitty attempts to be artsy with camera angles in the first season.

What was bad about this storyline? Bunny Colvin was just ahead of his time.

My only beef with Hamsterdam was how the hell it was kept out of the media for so long. It maybe makes sense before the proliferation of social media, but it just seems really hard to keep that under wraps.
The world needs more Bunny Colvins.

I disagree about Hamsterdam. To each their own. But I thought it was a great commentary on the drug war, the violence resulting from it, and the public health measures that could address it. As others said, Bunny Colin was ahead of his time. Man invented a brown bag for illegal drugs .

It's kind of bait and switch, but Bubbles is the actual protagonist of The Wire.

S3 is the GOAT season for a show. And S2 gets way too much hate. It went down for me after S3 (no more Barksdale org and I hated the school stuff).

Yeah when the rest of the show was realistic Hamsterdam just seemed so real world implausible like scenes from Death Wish 3 or a movie like that.

Let's hear the man out.

I finished my first watch the other day of this show and had a thread started about it, which obviously I see why it's considered one of the best shows of all time. Not many complaints from me on it. The only shows I think the only shows you can legitimately believe are better would be Breaking Bad or The Sopranos.

You want it to be one way, but it's the other way.
