Commission to vote in November. Of course the author you can tell tries to use emotion & say teddy bear & what not. If they only knew how destructive they are.

If you follow the Louisiana Black Bear Report on Facebook, there are a whole lot more bears in Louisiana that most people think. Plenty of photos with sows with multiple cubs, even 3 or 4 cubs.

We keep pouring out the corn and they keep getting fatter and reproducing.

I can’t wait for the tagging-anal butthole probing procedure LDWF will devise to allow “harvest” of one of these black baws. But I’m getting me a rug one way or another.

Same here. Maybe even a blanket while I’m at it.

I’d also like to simply instill some fear of god in the local population. They need to not be comfortable seeing people walking up.

Plenty of bear attacks and incidents in Great Smokey national park. Zero in the neighboring national forest. Hunting is not allowed in the park. Hunting is allowed in the forest. Bears that aren't wary of humans get eliminated from the population right quick in the forest, but not in the park.

I'd be interested to see what the density of animals is in Louisiana. Arkansas game and fish completed a study of southern Arkansas this week and found there were 5 bears per 39 sq miles (I converted from kilometers square). Also a 6% annual growth rate since 2018.

Harvested bears have to supply a molar and hair sample

The antis and fake “conservation” groups will file lawsuits and tie it up in the courts for years.

Nine bears were legally killed in Union County, Arkansas last season. That county borders Louisiana.

Don’t forget extra cost of tag/permit.

Actually quite good. Tastes a lot like pork.

Black bears are considered edible. Grizzly and Brown Bears are not.

Wasn’t a hunting season one of the goals or reintroducing the damned things?

Wasn’t a hunting season one of the goals…

Not that I’m aware of. I worked with several of those folks and I can assure you that at no time was a potential hunting season talked about. Sadly, it was just more mismanagement by LDWF and the US Fish and Game.

When the restocking began they couldn’t foresee how well the bears have done. In fact, I remember one conversation with a biologist who told me, and I quote…these bears will never get west of the Ouachita in our lifetimes.

But the combination of monoculture forestry, thick cutovers and baiting created a perfect set of circumstances.

In 2016, SCI had to to step in and defend US Fish and Wildlife over the delisting of the Louisiana bear. Several of these fake conservation/environmental groups had filed suit in an effort to keep the bears listed as endangered. Thankfully, SCI won and control of the bear was turned over to LDWF.

I believe we have a season coming, but I can almost guarantee you there will be much litigation involved.

Interesting

I recall something around 2005, black bear corridor or something that was supposed to connect NELA with the Atchafalaya Swamp. Most folks were against it but the Feds did it anyway.

I imagine they’ll prolly only be lottery hunts and it’ll prolly be pretty hard to get black bear tags. No way they’ll treat it like they do everything else, where anyone can just get tags.

On USFWs land it will be a no go. Maybe on some WMAs the rest of the tags will be on private land with a quota.
