The key to retiring early is to be debt free. No mortgage and vehicles paid for. It doesn’t take as much money as you think to live that way.
You should probably add that you need a home or condo that’s paid for.. Doesnt do much good to be debt free with no mortgage if you have no place to live .

Is that subsidized?
How much income do you show?

Thirty-six years in my regular job and twenty-four years as a military reservist. Now I work part-time when I feel like working.

Worked until near 60 as an engineer in chemical facilities.
Secret is to find work you really enjoy. I would still be doing that but no longer enjoyed what I was doing.
Now working as much as I want, doing what I want .

I know the military isn't for everyone but you can't really beat the retirement and benefits.
100% agreed. My pops retired after 20 years in the military then worked another 14 years and secured a second retirement.
The military benefits are absolutely solid.

I’ll have plenty of money. Just the stresses of inflation, property taxes in TX, healthcare, etc. Debating if that’s the time to take up citizenship in another country. America sucks for retirees.

Plant baw 40 years. Went on disability at 57 with a bad back. Formally retired at 59. Been away from it almost 6 years now.

Retired at 55, but by far the busiest retired guy you know.
I’m called to help solve problems. No charge, I just enjoy the challenge.
Bought a new truck 2 years and two months ago, just turned 75,000 miles.
I do more fun stuff than most.
Still get my 4-5 hours of sleep a night.
Dr put me on a treadmill yesterday, good for another million miles.
Could have worked at my job till I was 90, but it was time to move on.

Bingo .
There are many, many LCOL countries that beat America in many ways.. there are even some that have excellent healthcare that is dirt cheap.. and most of them dont have the insane gun culture that America has, where you have to keep ur head on a swivel when you go to freaking Costco .
I will be 50 in a few years, and ill be gotdam if im gonna work my tail off til im 60 or 65, when i could bail at 50 or 55 and live cheap and well in someplace like Costa Rica, Belize, Ecuador, Vietnam, Thailand, etc etc etc .

I work for myself and could easily keep this pace for a real long time. Realistically looking at 62 in 8 years. My kids can take over and bring that new guy energy and grow it or I can sell if it isn’t their jam

I’m only 38, but I plan on retiring at 58. If I feel good and want to keep doing whatever I’m doing, I will. I don’t see retirement as a main goal but I don’t see myself spending my days in drudgery if I don’t have to.
My wife is eligible for tier 1 teacher retirement in Alabama in 9 years. I’m really pushing for her to consider it. Would be great for her to have a small side job and focus on our teenaged/college-aged kids and helping build our lives post-kids.
We just work and spend time with our kids nowadays. We have no life, and I always said we wouldn’t be like this.

Retired at 58 but keep my hands in it on a very part-time basis to stay active and make a little extra money.
PS - I love what I do so it's really not work to me.
