Avoid Zoo
Waterfront is good and close but if you want authentic Cajun check out Fontenot’s downtown. It’s legit.
Of course you hang out at Walk-Ons and watch other football games.
If you have kids take em to surge instead of the zoo. Won’t be disappointed.
Johnnys is ok. In the 80’s and 90’s it was really good. But they’ve changed their sauce and it’s just mediocre pizza.
Besides the place downtown, there’s plenty of nice restaurants downtown that are legit (and pricey). Flying Tiger Brewery is a chill vibe and neat place to kill time.
Be sure to check out the Mohawk if cold beer, raw oysters, and the 1950’s is your vibe.
Spent the weekend up there last week. Not too bad.

shite I think Genusa's food has improved since the fire and re-do. If I had to do a Monroe top 5 for food it probably would be:
Parish
Genusas
Warehouse
Doe's
Cotton
They sat the new rendition of River Grille is really good, but I havent been. Always a cool spot to hang out though. It's a shame the food at Miro's is terrible. It would be the coolest venue in the city.

The place by the bridge in Little Cuba used to be River Grille but I'm not sure if that's what he's talking about. Right before you cross the bridge to where the stables and houseboats used to be by the levee.

No it's next to Chauvin grocery. At the junction of the bayou and the river. Little Cuba/ River Oaks area..

OOOOOOOHHHH thats why I remember that place. Never ate there but we used to run by it all the time. We'd start practice at forsythe on the levee then run down that direction

It's called JPappa's now. The dude that owns the entire building including the grocery bought out the previous River or Levee Grill owner and fixed it up. Menu is pretty tight. It was always my go to place when I moved back to Monroe and lived in River Oaks a few years back. It was handy to go grab something quick and if you wanted to have an adult beverage or 3 it was an excellent place for that as well. I called it inside the wire since it is technically in River Oaks and most people in River Oaks hate going outside the wire to do anything.
Also, that grocery store has some of the best frozen stuff for sale in their freezers. The veg/beef soup is off the hook and their gumbo isn't to far behind.
