Yes sir Mr. Burke you nailed it. I thought recruiting would be easy for him here. No restrictions and academic stuff. WIDE OPEN. Yet he’s not crushing it like I figured and cannot understand why? I mean he’s killing it in the portal but missing out on kids he should get on the recruiting trail. Is it NIL? I mean is it?

By definition, not "meh" in the slightest.

Best team ever in NCAA, to getting drug all over the field by a mid level program.
Kelly isn't the one responsible for this. That would be the guy he replaced.
Remember? The one who got run off the field by a 4-7 Mississippi State the first game after winning a title.

I think if he was making good decisions and coaching them up, and talent was the only thing, then you could feel like the future is bright. This guy has no idea how to even evaluate talent or clock management. His idea of going for 4th down in bad situations and then not going for 4th down in mandatory situations just makes him seem like a fraud. Normal coaches understand these small things.
I honestly thought he would be great at the small things and have them on point. But we have players and whole special teams that don't even know the rules after a kick is blocked or to jump on a ball that's on the ground. It's the little things that have been completely overlooked. We look incompetent at football. How in the hell does that happen to such a 'prestigious' coach?
What have you seen improved that gives you hope that these details will be coached in the future?

While you’re correct, this is where we have to evaluate and develop at a high level to maximize what we have

it’s absolutely insane that we can consider Brian Jelly being so good he was able to increase expectations in year 2 to the CFP a failure.
if he’s failing at everything going back to last year, why do you expect more than this?

This is your primary mental hurdle to get over. Kelly didn’t say “this is a top 5 team, rank us up there.”
Then there was absolutely no reason to bring Daniels back to use up all the QB snaps and waste a year of another QB developing.
Just because Kelly used the "this team is 1-year away" to cover his own arse, does not mean his team gets a pass.
They are underperforming and he will either have to get his shite together in recruiting high school players or have to keep reaching for questionable transfers from mediocre to bad schools to "fill the team" rather than "patch a small hole".
He's not even using transfers the way it is best for "depth". He is using it for starters and relying way too much on it.
In the end, he is overrated and there are reasons he didn't win a NC at Notre Dame and it isn't because recruiting there is hard.

Man, so we just shouldn’t play any upper classmen with this logic? Just tank the whole season for player development.. season is still in front of us. It’s game six, not 10
What do you want him to do? The portal is the quickest way to build starters. We lost the entire secondary last year.. you don’t just recover from that with one class under your belt. Get a grip

So he should have told Daniels "No thanks, I'd rather the offense be worse this year"?
I wasn't even a big Daniels fan, but this is about as fricking ignorant as it gets.

Hey how many three stars this year and last? Try to many. We look like Arkansas this year.

Seriously man....Where do you people come from? You know this info is pretty easily accessible, correct?

The point is if you are going to talk about the long term health and strength of the program and not about one year, bringing back a guy lack Daniels (He's been phenomenal by the way) doesn't help younger guys develop, and so you end up having a potentially strong defense ( ) matched up with a young and green offense.
To win a title you need both to have talent and experience. If this was the defensive product we were going to get, I'd much rather have had a young guy developing with experience than wasting that year with an atrocious defense and winning nothing of meaning in the process.

Again, Daniels has been great, but this year for the team will end up a waste because of Kelly's either poor decisions on defensive talent in the transfers/players recruited or in his coaching staff selections on that side of the ball.
I am thrilled for Daniels because he is starting to reach his potential, but LSU is not supposed to be like Mississippi State where you are mediocre but put up great stats.
Hell, Colt Brennan's Hawaii defenses may have been better than this team.

Zero coaches turn away a 5th year QB returning who can win games, because winning games is, and always will be, priority #1.
Don't be dumb.

Name one player there that deserves to be a starter on a competitive P5 team? It's either the players or coaching. Since you all claim it is not coaching, then the players are the issue.
Most of us understand it is a combination of both, but both are the responsibilities of the coaching staff.

The only reason LSU didn't have a losing record in 2022, and won't have one in 2023, is because of transfers that Kelly brought it.
Seriously man, don't be fricking dumb.

It's not about the 3 stars anymore. It's about the transfers. They lucked out in 2022 with their transfers hitting. 2023 transfers, particularly on defense, have almost all been misses. Diggs is really the only one making a strong positive impact. Jordan Jefferson has shown flashes. Outside of that 2023 Transfers have been awful.

On one side of the ball, yes. On the other side, they are putting up what may historically be the worst LSU defense of all time.

The defense was filled with transfers last season, and it helped LSU win 10 games and the West. Winning 10 games and the West is one of the primary reasons LSU's recruiting is still up despite two absolutely devastating seasons.
This isn't rocket science. Kelly is using the portal to bring in experienced players who can fill holes while the roster is rebuilt through recruiting. 10 years ago this program would have labored with 4 or 5 losing seasons while the coach had to rebuild with the roster that was left over from the previous staff. Thankfully, LSU is able to be competitive while the staff brings the roster back to a respectable position, thanks to the portal.
Yet you're sitting here saying he should be playing younger players, and being less competitive doing it, just because they aren't transfers? That is impressively dumb.
