Why do all the Republican noms including Trump/Desantis keep stepping into the trap.

Let me preference this by stating first and foremost that I am Pro Life.
We all know that a lot of the suburban women and independent voters that could potentially be swayed to the right are pro choice. In years during Roe V Wade, Republican noms would start make abortion a big part of their platform and we would lose these votes. But now that Toe has been overturned, it is a states right issue as it should have always been and no longer on a federal level.
Yet anytime the talking heads ask Trump or Desantis about the issue they start going on about what they will do thus falling into the trap. Why don’t they just say “Well despite whatever my personal view is, this is a states right issue and up to the individual states to decide how they want to handle”. Then move on to other topics that we can win votes on. The big question about litmus test for Supreme Court justices doesn’t even come into play anymore. On a federal level it’s Non issue so just stay away from it.

We are told that abortion isnt a big deal and Rons 6 week abortion ban would never be used against him. Suburban moms will love that ban

Well because it's potentially a federal issue still, and it's clear by now that the "we just want states' rights" rhetoric of the pro-life crowd wasn't truly sincere. Obviously the Left would be glad to use the federal government to protect abortion, so no need to even discuss that.

Wrong. Federal regulation is still in play.

This was when I started distancing myself from him

I agree with you but this is a "killing babies" position by Pro-lifers who do not understand federalism and I'm a pro-life supporter and vote for pro-life candidates all the time.

Unfortunately that's probably less than 5% of women.

Republican strategy: It is through agreeing to lose on the issues that we win.
The Democrats are the Harlem Globetrotters snd the GOP is the Washington Generals.

That’s my point though. I am also a pro lifer and will also continue to vote for pro life candidates at a state level. I would also prefer a pro life president and like I said they can state they are pro life but leave it at that and let the voters know this is an issue to be decided at the state level.

How were we not truly sincere?

For now, but the next time the Dems control the White House and Congress, they will pass a Federal abortion law. And if they ever control SCOTUS, that law will stay in place for good.

returning abortion to the States was a win but the GOP establishment are stupid because they are mostly all really democrats.
so they try to go holier than thou Pence to APPEAR that THEY are somebody other than democrats.

I’d have more to say if it weren’t right up front.

If you'll teach me what federalism is perhaps I'll reverse course on my abortion stance

DeSantis has been clear he sees it as a state issue and passing Federal abortion legislation is not a priority. Trump is the idiot who opened the can of worms in his interview and in true Trump fashion instead of admitting a mistake is doubling and tripling down.

Trump is the one trying to make it a Federal issue.
