Did a 1997 Walker Texas Ranger episode inspire Stranger Things’ character 11?

I mentioned the other day here I’ve been watching Walker out of nostalgia

Just came across this episode i didn’t remember with the blond kid from 7th Heaven. Googled and someone else did this write up

quote:

The episode, dubbed Brainchild, follows the story of a 12-year-old called Chad Morgan who has spent the last eight years living in a shady scientific research institute lab as a human guinea pig. Here they test and expand his “paranormal abilities” to make him move objects with his mind and throw grown men against walls. Oh, and when he does it, he gets a nosebleed.

quote:

Child with special abilities kept as human guinea pig in lab
Psychokinetic powers
Nosebleeds
Befriends friendly childless cop
Takes down baddies with one glance
Likes breakfast foods
Fed lies about their mum
Mum was employee of sicko doctors who kept him locked up
Bad docs get comeuppance

quote:

The only real difference is that Chad Morgan gets to enjoy a normal childhood with his mum, while Eleven is stuck with unhinged but cute Joyce, and there are no Demogorgons.

Now, I did not see this episode, and I unfortunately can't find it online, but my husband was watching Walker, Texas Ranger at his mom's tonight and said it reminded him so much of Seven. Here is a plot description from IMDB. "A boy with telepathic powers escapes the laboratory where he was living since his mother supposedly died. He learns his mother is alive so he contacts Walker to ask for assistance. The doctors try to destroy evidence and kill witnesses." He said the boy was showing his powers to someone and moved an object and then GOT. A. BLOODY. NOSE. Weird right? Can anyone shed some light on this? Anyone have season 6 and can watch "Brainchild"?

Conan O’Briens reaction to that one was hilarious.

The 1983 movie Firestarter also developed the same themes, but the dad got nosebleeds, not the kid.

I just assumed Stranger Things ripped that off since so much of that show is an homage to the 80s.

All of these probably came from one source and were modified. The first thing I recall that was similar is the book Escape to Witch Mountain. I read it when I was young but I think it was published in the 60’s. There were probably others before that.

I've always thought it was River from Firefly. Very similar. But it could go further back.

Chuck Norris took a vacation to the Virgin Islands. When he left they were just called The Islands.
