SX4 vs 940 vs other 3.5” semi-autos

Looking at picking up a sub-$1k auto-loader for ducks and geese like a Winchester SX4 or a Mossberg 940. Bonus if they can cycle 2.75” target loads reliably. I know you guys have thoughts. Would you share them?

Have no experience with the mossy 940 but the SX4 will cycle target loads if they are 1&1/8 oz and at least 1200 fps. Everyone I know that shoots the Winchester, likes it.

I have a mossberg 940 pro turkey and I love it so far. Being a turkey gun, I’ve only shot it 20 times or so, mostly with heavy turkey loads, although it didn’t have an issue with the few low brass rounds I shot wither. So far, it looks like the 940 is better than some of the other mossberg shotguns I’ve see , but there’s no comparison when it comes to quality between that and a Winchester SX4.
My wife has a 20 gauge SX3 and it’s been an outstanding gun. I would definitely get the SX4.
Beretta A300s are nice guns as well.

Cant say anything about any mossberg product (at least anything positive) That being said, I read where the 940 was getting good reviews.
Sx4 is a great option, smaller and leaner than the 3.
If you look around; you might be able to find a browning gold or silver for 7-900, great option if so.
Have 3 berettas but no 300, no feedback to give sorry.

I have a 930, which is pretty much the same thing as a 940. It has been utterly reliable with all loads, and is a soft shooter. Eight pounds, which is heavy, so know what you want to do with it. A 930/940 is a very good option for waterfowl or clay/target shooting. Note that neither the 930 or 940 are chambered in 3.5". That is the 935.

Have a SX4 3.5”. Love it. Going to buy a 20 Ga little brother to pair it with.

The SX4 and the Browning Maxus are just about the same gun. I have the first Gen Maxus and that gun never let me down. But at the end of the day, I prefer the Benelli SBE3. Better fit for me.
