For movie night tonight. We're about 45 minutes in and it's god awful.

Nothing about it is good. The casting, the songs, the CGI, everything is horrible. My kids are starting to ask questions, and want to watch the original.

Ariel or however it's spelled is comically bad.

Potentially, but she can't act or sing. Didn't say anything about how she probably can't swim....yet.

I checked out when Scuttle started talking under water. Even the carton recognized that it was a step too ridiculous.

Also, the new music sucks.

Did they notice how far apart Ariel’s eyes are?

The must be able to sing. Isn’t she already a singer? I get why you are saying though. I remember hearing her in the extended commercial and she wasn’t even hitting the notes of the original.

It was really bad. I was talked into watching it on Disney+ with the kids and it was excruciating to sit through. CGI was awful and the acting wasn’t better. Setting it in the carribean was just dumb but I guess that’s how they excused casting Ariel. The kids didn’t like it either which I suppose is a blessing. No idea how that has a 94% audience score on RT.

On the flip side was pleasantly surprised with elemental. Scared to watch anything disney these days because they’ve been so bad but it was a decent flick.

I’m lucky. My 8 year old girl saw the preview and kept asking “where’s Ariel?” Without Ariel in the movie she had zero interest.

She may not be able to act, but she most certainly can sing. She sang well, the guy who played the prince was good, and the girl who played the human version of Ursula was fantastic. I wish they had given her more screen time. Those were the only good things about the film.

+1

My 4 year made me watch this finally. She sings well enough but my god the CGI was terrible. Nothing positive to say about scuttle. They gave her a song and holy shite it was terrible. Dumb design for flounder. Removing the song with the crab in the kitchen I thought was a bad choice.

Weird how kids, the target audience, don’t seem to mind the “wokeness” of movies and still want to watch.

always enjoy adults melting over kids movies

Have not seen it yet, but know it’s a matter of time as my oldest is currently in a mermaid obsession. But this is the biggest question I had, why not just change some of the names. You could still have Triton and have this just be the story of a different area of the ocean/sea that he controlled and had other children in.

Again, haven’t seen it; but from I have seen from Disney is it’s not supposed to be a remake, but an adaptation taken place in a different location. Seams like you could easily fix a lot of the frustrations by just using a different mermaid name, prince’s name, and possibly a different sister

You just don’t get it. Of course the kids don’t mind. They are kids and as such do not fully understand the woke messaging yet. But if they keep seeing it enough it normalizes it for them. That’s why they keep cramming it in childrens movies and books. And hence why good parents keep melting over it.
