but I dont think he got any snaps against GSU. He seemed to play well against FSU but went from the penthouse to the outhouse pretty quick. No comments were made by Kelly that I saw as an explanation for such a sudden drop in favor. Does anyone have any insight to where he currently ranks on the depth chart?

Did he play at all?
Maybe he had a suspension that they could apply to Grambling game rather than FSU game

I was shocked he got the touches he did against FSU and nothing against Grambling

I think it was a gimmick play catered to his skill. Wouldn’t surprise me to see him some more this year on those type of plays

Chris Hilton, Lance Heard, Kaleb Jackson, Logan Diggs and LaTerrance Welch didn't play against FSU There is no rhyme or reason to his depth chart.

Hilton
Heard
Jackson

They all played versus FSU.

Other than the coaches favor certain aspects or they just can’t scout their own roster during practices

No insight on the depth chart. But I can tell you he pedaled on the bike almost the whole GSU game and never acted like he expected to go in.

Dont think Bradford was actually available for Grambling base don sideline reports. However, I dont think the coaches have any clue what kind of RB rotation they want to have. Part of the problem of having 8 scholarship runningbacks which was completely overkill for an offense that has a running QB or any offense for that matter as 8 scholarship backs in 2023 football just makes no sense. They really need to condense that room down to 4-5 guys and stock up in other places moving forward. Have 2 guys you like to use, a 3rd "different" guy and 1-2 guys as fallback options in case of injury/suspension basically.

RBs ran the ball a total of 310 times last season. That's 22 times a game. You dont need to be a math major to understand with only 1 guy on the field at a time having 8 guys you can go to makes zero sense there

We're a far cry from the days of Les Miles where the RBs carried the rock say 30-35 times a game. Even then I dont think we ever had 8 scholarship backs at any point.

Especially with many of those just depth pieces.

There wasn’t one running back worth a shite outside of the first play of the game. Emory, Diggs, Jackson should be the rbs.

Exactly. He had one wheel route work out and did nothing else all game.

We have a lot of guys who are all about the same. There is a lot of sorting out going on and would expect to see a lot of inconsistent playing times in the first few games.

especially when two of them are not good and one of em is available 25% of the time. Go get another decent corner if you can find em maybe two

we’ve seen before that it’s rare for Kelly to put true freshmen tour there game one.

Heard looks great but you don’t know his grasp of the playbook and how ready week 1 he looked. Same with Jackson.

RBs and Offensive linemen are way different though. An Oline guy is out there for every offensive snap and has to know literally everything. That's hard on any true freshman, especially going against physically advanced and more mature edge rushers as a 18 year old freshman in HEard's case.

A RB though? You can easily play game 1, and nobody expects you to tote the rock 20-25 times, nobody really does that any more anyways. Jackson could have 5-6 plays he knows well and thats what he can run and you could easily get away with that from the get go. He doesnt need to be out for 65 offensive snaps. But if he's out there for 10 or so and gets a few totes it should be easily feasible.

sure but also you don’t know how the bright lights are going to effect a kid till he is out there and we had backs who had played before.

I'm just saying the defense of not playing some freshmen game 1 makes more sense than others depending on position. If you're ready to go game 2 then you're PROBABLY "ready" game 1 too. Will have to see moving forward but if Jackson is one our best 2 backs it didnt really make any sense for him to ride the pine game 1 at all.

Bradford is not that good.

LSU RB room currently ranked IMO when all things considered:

1. Logan Diggs
2. Kaleb Jackson
3. Josh Williams
4. Noah Cain
5. John Emery Jr.
6. Trey Holly
7. Tre Bradford
8. Armoni Goodwin
9. Malachi Lane

Think he was questionable on the injury report earlier in the week before Grambling game
