The Douglas C-47 Skytrain or Dakota (RAF designation) is a military transport aircraft developed from the civilian Douglas DC-3 airliner. It was used extensively by the Allies during World War II. During the war the C-47 was used for troop transport, cargo, paratrooper, for towing gliders and military cargo parachute drops. The C-47 remained in front-line service with various military operators for many years.[2] It was produced in approximately triple the numbers as the larger, much heavier payload Curtiss C-46 Commando, which filled a similar role for the U.S. military.

Used to watch pilots do touch and go’s in Huntsville. We could wave to the pilots. Looked like elephant doing really good ballet. Fascinating.

Probably my favorite non-fighter war aircraft. The lead pilot of the D-Day airborne assault was a LTC from Alabama flying one of these bad boys.

Nice work. Good to see you do one of the good guy's machines. (Though to be honest, I really like the Axis ones you make as well).

It took balls of steel to fly into the flak they encountered over Normandy.

Thanks. I like to keep a balance. But German armor is my favorite subject.

Another clean one. Less evidence of brushstrokes in the olive drab. Nice clear coat shine. Legit build in 1/72.

I think that is one of the planes my uncle flew in "The Hump" in WW II. Started in fighters but wound up in transports to fix when needed while in the air.

Have you dabbled with airbrushing Darth? Back when I was younger and was pretty heavy into doing these I did some airbrushing with the testors kit. Pain in the butt to use and took a lot of practice. But I did an A-6 that was just gorgeous.
I honestly have no idea what happened to all those models.
