Indeed she could, in her prime she had a magnificent voice and she wasn't hard on the eyes at all either.

Great singer but her politics shouldn't have ever entered the arena. She may as well have toured with The Dixie Chicks

Actually, she was not a songwriter. But her versions are so good that she “owns” almost every song she recorded.
