Jalen Cook eligibility - A Football Analogy

I knkw that many, including myself, have been worried about the potential intelligibility of purported starting PG Jalen Cook.
Well, today the NCAA informed current Miss. St. and former TCU tightend Geor'quarius (Wow) Spivey that he was ineligible to participate in the upcoming season.
LINK
Interestingly, this kid, like Cook, started at Miss. St., transferred to TCU, and subsequently transferred back to Miss. St. this past off-season. Even more concerning is he's a grad transfer, which Cook is not. This seems like a pretty nuanced situation and I'm sure not many know the full details, but I must say my hope that Cook will be deemed eligible is waning more and more

It's not an apples to apples comparison. Spivey was enrolled at TCU for the spring semester, the same one he enrolled at State during. I'm pretty sure that is what is causing the issue.
Cook's issue is that unlike Spivey, he's not a grad transfer. I don't see how Cook is eligible at LSU, but that's just my opinion.

If we know anything, it's that the NCAA has a sterling reputation for unbiased, even-handed, consistent decision-making.

NCAA probably hasn't gotten around to the basketball players yet, guess we will find out sometime in October.
Efton Reid in the same boat, went to Gonzaga and than back in portal, not sure where he ended up.
NCAA should have alerted these players way before now that this was gonna be an issue in case they wanted to stay put.
The NCAA President just announced that they were way more lenient during COVID which is fine but you need to communicate that better to your student athletes to avoid the issues you've created. They should have indicated that effective with new academic year starting August 2023 instead of going backwards on this.

He transferred to Wake. They could be more lenient to him because he first transfer was after the coach got fired. Cook doesn't really have a case besides transferring back to original school out of HS. If he shite talks Wade to them it might gain him some favor.

Did the NCAA ever not say that it’s a 1 time transfer? They handed out waivers like candy “due to Covid” but it was still a waiver. Now they just aren’t giving the waivers to players.

The guidance doc that the NCAA issued back in the Spring was pretty clear and pretty bleak for those seeking waivers.
