It’s not the talent for Gilbert, at all. He’s physically the 2nd most talented tight end in the country, it’s between the ears.

I remember his true freshman year, he seemed to get absolutely drilled behind the line of scrimmage on every carry. He had like 8 carries for 2 yards but kept his redshirt.

Landon Jackson hurt, as well. He’s been good at Arkansas and we wouldn’t have had to rely on the portal so much there with an experienced guy ready to step in this season.

Great athletes aren’t always great football players. If Aric Gilbert was a difference maker, he’d be on the field. Especially since this is his 3rd school.
There’s no mental about it. Either a guy makes plays, or he can’t. Plenty of 5 star guys in HS end up doing nothing in college. I remember when TE Luke Ford transferred from Georgia to Illinois. Illinois fans were hyped about getting him back as he was in state kid. Turns out he just wasn’t good at football. Great athlete, all the size/speed measurables. But not a good player.

He didn’t like BK’s offense. So he went to a different school to confirm he was too little to play power conference football.
