There is a company called LexusNexus which gets all the reported data from oil changes, carfax, etc. so essentially any time you do any maintenance on he vehicle, they report it.

Thanks to you and others for the responses and information.

Benny’s Oil Change and other oil change places get paid to report that info.

Actually, the seminar that I went to explained how most of us are freely agreeing to give away that information. These data mining companies are using small print in the customer agreement where most of us quickly check the box and hit the "AGREE" button.

I don’t see a problem with this. When buying a car it’s nice to see the service report on car. It’s also nice to prevent people from cheating the insurance company. Because the insurance companies aren’t going to lose money so you know who subsidizes those cheats? You do!

Pretty much this. Verified Annual Mileage is now a thing because so many people (agents include) lie about the true annual mileage driven for lower rates. They should have an odometer reading to compare the new reported number with to determine the annual mileage. If the newly reported odometer reading is off you should be able to verify with current odometer pictures and/or a carfax report (considering the new reading came from another source). I would definitely ask to see the numbers. Your agent will likley be more than happy to look into especially if he feels he may lose your business.

If we are going to sue everyone in a wreck with mandatory liability insurance, why not drop insurance requirements altogether? Is insurance really needed at this point?
