Retay Shotguns?

I’m looking at getting my son a 12ga semi auto for his birthday. Was looking strongly at a franchi affinity 3.
Was wanting something mid line that would last his life but also not top of the line so he could move up when he could afford it on his own.
I was at the gun counter today and held a retay gordian and really liked it at $850.
Was curious if anyone on here had one or knew about them? Tia

My two cents,I would personally steer away from retay. It is a Turkish knock off of the benelli system after the inertia patent expired. I’ve have handled a few (not shot) and they felt cheap to me.
The franchi is made on same line as benellis; and I have hunted with several guys that use them with no issue. They are basically a slightly heavier SBE.
Another good option for a solid mid range semi in that similar price range is the stoeger. I have one as a backup and I love it.

I would go with the Affinity or Benelli Montefeltro. I have both and they are great guns for the price point. Montefeltro is definitely lighter/smoother a little more refined but cant go wrong with either.

I have the Masai Mara 3.5" and love it. I have had it for about 3 years, and have used it for skeet, doves, turkeys, and ducks.
I've never had an issue with mine, the only recommendation I would make is to use high brass for 2 3/4 loads. The lower brass sometimes hangs up during ejection. But I have had that issue with other 3.5" guns as well.
Hope this helps.

If it’s for your son buy him something nice- he’ll have it when you’re gone.

2 Masai Mara in my immediate family. I love mine, way better for me than the Super Vinci it replaced.
Other one had an issue with charging handle falling off, but customer service was fabulous ( answering emails on weekends etc)and now gun is great. That experience is largely why I bought mine. 2 yrs, no regrets, but cannot comment on long term durability.
Franchi Affinity is a great gun and value as well.

I have SBE2, Montefeltro, M2 and the Retay masa masa whatever.
I shoot the retay as I dont like the SBE2. I had a Vinci and sold it to a buddy. Have had no issues with it at all, I like the feel better, it is a little more snappy than the SBE or the Vinci, which I like.
That all said, my favorite gun by far is the M2. Love the thing. When it came time to buy my 14 year old his forever 12, I got him the M2. It doesnt shoot 3.5, but not an issue for me.

Stick to the 3 B’s and u won’t go wrong…… if it is for ur son don’t be a tight arse. Give him something he will be proud of and could one day hand down to ur grandchild! That’s one thing my dad didn’t go cheap on and now we have a stock pile of awesome guns to hand down to me and my 3 boys.

Franchi, Beretta A300, SX4, or Benellii Montefeltro (or find the old M2, not the newly released one).

For what they cost, why chance it? You can get a beretta for that price.
A guy I hunt with has one. We had to beat it apart in the camp after it locked itself up hunting. I've never seen anyone get after a beretta or benelli with a framing hammer to unstuck it.

I have the Retay Masai Mara and I really like it. It shoots every bit as good as my SBEIII.
Quick story: I loaned it to a buddy for a skeet shoot one day and it was having trouble recycling. I reached out to Retay and said that 7.5s and 8's didn't produce enough energy to fully eject the shell in the earlier models they produced. They sent me a box and prepaid label and an absolute baw called me when it got to the manufacturer, talked me through what he was going to replace and then said "theres another minor issue some guys have reported so I'm going to fix that too even though you haven't had the same problem." We went on to talk duck hunting for like 20 min. I had my gun back at my house within four days of shipping it. That is some pretty unmatched customer service and that sort of thing goes along way in my book.

I have a hard time getting the “new kid on the block” for what is a lifetime purchase.

Haven't heard good things about them
Recently Bought an m2 and love it, just dont love it more than browning for go to.
That being said, if you dont need 3.5 it's a much better gun for same price as rettay.

Doesn't get your gun working in the duck blind.

Benelli click is a non-issue unless you intentionally try to make it happen.
Retay is an overpriced Turkish knockoff. Why pay genuine article price for a knockoff?

So no on retay.
What do y’all think between franchi affinity 3 and like a benelli m2 or montefeltro?
